This year's much anticipated Chanel Cruise show was held in Seoul, where the fashion house showcased their pre spring/summer 2015-2016 collection. The location of the shoot was the astonishing futuristic Dongdaemun Design Plaza, in South Korea.
The show was astoundingly impressive, right from the colourful pokadot invitations to the catwalk stage. The minimal room contained small colourful stools, which were dotted around at different heights. The show was nothing short of being breathtakingly young and lively. The curves and sweeping designs of the floor were filled with large colourful spots.
The collection was full of wacky and fun colours, contrasting patterns, patchwork, and zigzag stripes. The combination of garments included some tailored concepts, as well as loose fitting dresses and sleeves; the collection was colourful and had an animated quality. Designs also included some signature Chanel looks including the colourfully woven jacket silhouettes and pencil skirt styles, as well as the Chanel flower the – camellia, which was artistically constructed in a pop art fashion.
There were also some exquisitely embellished evening wear designs, which were full of intricate detailing, including some light chiffon fabric beautifully garnished with elaborate small sequin designs.
The models hair and makeup was just as stunning, Sam Knight who was responsible for creating the looks said that: "Karl sent me images, photos and paintings of traditional hairstyles worn by ancient Korean nobility, and we then made 120 and black hair braids from synthetic hair dressed with beeswax to keep it in place" He also added that he moulded it "into different shapes, from cute Minnie Mouse ears to large triple back buns, and traditionally inspired crowns, almost making them into hats which were fastened with clips and combs onto each girl's hair."
The Mini mouse looking hair was also possibly a reflection of the Korean Manga cartoon genre, which brought a bright and spirited feel to the event.
I like to think we will see this trend filtered down into the high street, perhaps with big braided buns, and plaits. The doll like makeup was very wearable too; from bright pink and red lips, to subtle blusher on the apple of the cheeks; (perfect for summer). The brows were outlined creating precise symmetry.
We are also seeing the return of false lashes but in a small micro mini version, in the middle of the bottom lash line. If this look is too daring for some perhaps opt for a thicker mascara look on the outer corners of the bottom lash line, it will add definition as well as making the eyes appear larger.
The Guest List for the event was star-studded as expected, with everyone I'm sure wanting first dibs on the clothing, we saw the likes of Chanel 'It girl' Kristen Stewart, veteran of the catwalk Gisele Bundchen, as well as the very talented British actress Tilda Swinton.
Karl Lagerfeld's vision for the show was truly magnificent, and inspirational.
