Recently British brand Hamilton and Hare launch their new Lombard collection of men's tailored briefs.

Hamilton and Hare is the brainchild of Olivia Francis, who was inspired to create a line of high end well-tailored mends undergarments after a discussion with her bothers in which they complained about there not being any flattering underwear for men on the market.

Following the success of the Piccadilly the Lombard collection of tailored boxer shorts are made from the 100% cotton with Mother of pearl buttons, gusset contrast detailing and available in a range of sophisticated colors' and of course has the Hamilton & Hare signature tailored inspired by Savelle Row tailoring which affords the wearer with more flattering and comfortable fit and comes packaged in a very snazzy wash bag.

Ladies I promise you will love you will love your men in these.

Bunny ears have been a lasting addition to the world of fashion since adorning Hugh Hefner's bunny girls in the 60's.

They have popped up for decades in the world of high fashion with bunny ears used as a key accessory in many amazing editorials and even making appearances on front covers including on Catherine McNeil for Vogue Paris June 2007, Daria Werbowy for Flare Sep 2009 and Natalia Vodianova for Tatler in May 2011.

They were reinvented once again during Paris Fashion week AW 2009/10 when Marc Jacobs, designing for Louis Vuitton sent his models down the runway in giant bunny ears. They also featured in the ad campaign with the models sporting towering pink haute couture versions of the headpiece. The look was copied by Madonna a few months later when she wore a similar pair to the Costume Institute Gala in New York.
The famous bunny ears have also made a presence on stage and on the red carpet by stylish celebrities such as Lily Allen, Lady Gaga and Mary-Kate Olsen. Most recently they starred in a stunning shoot featuring Barbara Palvin for Elle UK March 2013.

I am glad they are not only reserved for fancy dress parties as I think they add a fun, whimsical fairy-tale look to some of my favourite fashion photographs. After being around for this long I am happy to say I think this is one look that will never go out of fashion.

Long live the bunny ears, thank you Mr Hefner!

Here are some of my favourites bunny looks:

ModaLisboa / Lisbon Fashion Week is the biggest fashion event in Portugal. It takes place twice a year – in March and October.

Lisbon_1
Nuno Baltazar AW 2013 (ModaLisboa / Photography: Rui Vasco)

After spending three wonderful days in Lisbon, watching the shows and getting familiar with the Portugese fashion industry, I can say that Portuguese designers are not only extremely talented, but also not appreciated enough on the European fashion scene!

One of my favourite shows during ModaLisboa Trust was Nuno Baltazar's show (see picture above). The designer proved that his high position in Portuguese fashion is well-deserved. Excellent tailoring and attention to detail make this collection stand out from the others. Strong, confident look and timeless elegance - fashion at its best!

Lisbon_2
Valentim Quaresma AW 2013 (ModaLisboa / Photography: Rui Vasco)

Valentim Quaresma is a jewellery designer based in Lisbon. After 20 years of collaborating with an avant-garde fashion designer Ana Salazar, he started his own line in 2005. His futuristic and innovative style quickly brought him a lot of popularity and recognition.

In 2008, Valentim won "Accessories Collection of the Year " award at ITS competition in Italy. He is currently considered as one of the top jewellery designers in Portugal.

Valentin's creative process concentrates on the specific function of the objects he works with, which, once transformed, are given a new functionality and meaning. His conceptual art has been exhibited in many cities including Lisbon, Porto, and Barcelona, as well as in international galleries and art biennales.

Lisbon_3
Ricardo Dourado AW 2013 (ModaLisboa / Photography: Rui Vasco)

Born in Portugal in 1980, Ricardo Dourado finished his education at CITEX Porto in 2003. Since 2004, Ricardo presents his work at Lisbon Fashion Week. He is also part of the design team at Polopique, a fashion company with studios in Portugal, Spain and Brazil.

The collection, inspired by the daily life of Soweto, featured colourful African prints combined with black and white elements. Skirts and dresses had interesting cuts and were accompanied by asymmetrical tops and coats with oversized shoulders.

Ricardo presented looks that were uncomplicated and versatile enough to last several seasons. His show was one of the highlights of Lisbon Fashion Week and proved that the Portuguese designer has a great potential and doesn't blend in with the crowd.

Lisbon_4
Pedro Pedro AW 2013 (ModaLisboa / Photography: Rui Vasco)

Pedro Pedro presented stylish collection featuring oversized coats and longer skirts inspired by Indian and North American portraits of families. The designs are strongly rooted in nature - the colour palette is toned and all details are kept to a basic minimum. Our prediction: fur handbags will be a big hit next season!

Lisbon_5
Luis Buchinho AW 2013 (ModaLisboa / Photography: Rui Vasco)

Luis Buchinho, an established Portuguese designer with over 20 years of fashion experience, opened the second day of Lisbon Fashion Week. The show took place under the historic arcades of Pátio da Galé and attracted a lot of people.

Luís Buchinho is one of the most respected names in Portuguese fashion. He has been designing for the past 20 years and has participated in several international fashion shows such as São Paulo Fashion Week and the official calendar of Paris Fashion Week. His clothes are modern and
cosmopolitan, featuring feminine silhouettes and structural forms.

The designer, inspired by the Portuguese revolution in the 70's, presented strong graphic lines and geometric shapes. Bold colour combinations (black-white-red) gave the collection a characteristic touch. The designs were accompanied by over-the-knee boots and long leather gloves.
Lisbon_6
Alaxandar Protic AW 2013 (ModaLisboa / Photography: Rui Vasco)

Simplicity, lean silhouettes, and strict colour palette - the key elements of Alaxandar Protic' style - were all present in his latest collection. The result is magnificent: modern and wearable designs suitable for every occasion.

As we can see, Autumn/Winter 2013 will be mainly black and white with occasional colour combinations of browns, reds, and greens. Plain, simple fabrics are definitely dominating the next season's look. The silhouette is changing – winter coats and jackets have broad, oversized shoulders. Invest in key accessories such as long leather gloves, round sunglasses, and stylish handbags – they will make your look complete!

It's a shocker but yes it is true! It has been confirmed by the labels creative director Hedi Slimane that Marilyn Manson is to appear in the labels upcoming menswear campaign. In a leaked photo posted online we see a solemn looking Manson in the black and white add. He looks pretty creepy and looks to be wearing lipstick and eye liner and is wearing one of Slimane's iconic leather jackets. You can hardly see any of the clothes at all so you can't say it showcases the line very well..but it does help solidify Slimane's new look for Saint Laurent –edgy 90's grunge.

Marylin_manson_for_Saint_Laurent

We are yet to see if this shock choice will help to sell clothes but one thing is for sure and that is that Hedi Slimane is definitely continuing to make his mark on the fashion word!

Shu Uemura 30 year Anniversary

This year the iconic Japanese cosmetics company Shu Uemura celebrates the 30 year anniversary of the opening of their maiden boutique in Tokyo – Shu Uemura Cosmetics. So how did one man from Japan turn a passion for make-up into a global cosmetics brand favoured by industry professionals? Who is this man that completely revolutionised the cosmetics industry and brought the eyelash curler into our lives and into every girl's handbag?

Shu Uemura was born in Japan in 1928. With a passion for hair and make-up from a young age, he followed his dreams and attended the Tokyo Beauty Academy - the only man in his 130 pupil class. He gained experience working in film make-up in Tokyo on the set of 'Joe Butterfly' in 1957 and this inspired him to leave Tokyo in the late 1950's to pursue his career in America.

shu_uemura_fashions_finest

The move paid off and in 1962 he got his first break in the industry, working on the set of the Hollywood film 'My Geisha'. It was his task to transform actress Shirley MacLaine, who is Caucasian, into a Japanese woman. The film makers, cast, and in particular Shirley MacLaine were so impressed with his work that word began to spread and he soon found himself a favourite make-up artist to Hollywood's elite, working with stars including Frank Sinatra and Lucille Ball.

In 1960 things were going so well for Shu Uemura that he decided to launch his first cosmetic product and made history by introducing the first oil-based cleanser to Japan, his 'Unmask' cleansing oil. Whilst in Hollywood he had come across an amazing facial cleanser called 'Magic Oil'. It restored the skin of actress's, needed after being exposed to harsh conditions like heavy make-up, bright lighting and long hours. This inspired him and he decided to make his own collection. The secret to Shu Uemura cleansing oil is protecting the skin's moisture balance while removing makeup and impurities. Blending rich botanical oils, including avocado and jojoba, with natural phyto ingredients the oil was a breakthrough in natural skin cleansing.

shu_Uemura_beauty_fashion_1

All of Shu Uemura's cleansing oils are formulated using the unique hpo (high performance oil) system, a complex combination of three distinct oils that trap the lipophilic residue of stubborn waxes and oils found in waterproof mascara, foundation and lip colour. Once emulsified by water, the cleansing oil encapsulates hydrophilic residue, such as dirt and sweat and gently lifts both types of impurities from the pores. The oil was a huge success and remains an iconic product that is used all over the world – with one being sold every 7 seconds!.

His success continued in 1964 with the opening of the 'Shu Uemura Beauty School' in Japan and he went on to open his cosmetics company 'Japan Makeup' in 1967, opening his first store in Tokyo's fashionable Omotesando district. In 1983 he changed the name of the company to 'Shu Uemura Cosmetics'.

The next step for Shu Uemura was his makeup collection, 'flaggy'. It was a revolutionary concept in make-up artistry and earned him acclaim as the first man who brought make-up to a state of art. The make- up is designed for the screen and consequently lasts longer on the skin, is more highly pigmented and has a superb finish. A favourite brand of many top make-up artists today.

The 1970's saw the opening of JM laboratories Inc, and initiated an in-house production of his skincare products.

The 80's in Japan saw a rapidly growing economy and a huge demand for western products. Shu Uemura Cosmetic's became a major player both in Japan and internationally.

Shu Uemura sold his share of the company to L'Oreal in 2004, remaining the creative director.

In 2005 Shu Uemura launched 'Tokyo Lash Bars'. He experimented with lashes and made them in voluptuous lengths, colours and with sparkling crystals, even making a diamond version for Madonna. Each lash is handcrafted by dedicated artists and his false lashes are among the most trusted by professionals.

shu-uemura-fashionsfinest_2

He sadly died of pneumonia in Tokyo on December 29, 2007 but L'Oreal are making sure his legend lives on and women will be benefiting from his expertise for decades to come. The company now makes approximately $100 Million dollars a year globally and has stores throughout the world. The brand continues to expand rapidly and in 2007 Shu Uemura launched their anti-aging range and in 2007 branched into hair-care with a collection of luxury hair-care products.

Now with perfumes, handmade makeup and hair brushes and the legendary eyelash curler, Shu Uemura caters to all your cosmetic needs. Their eye lash curler has won many awards and was even mentioned in the 2006 film 'The Devil Wears Prada'.

To celebrate Shu Uemura's anniversary and pay tribute to their iconic cleansing oil, they have released five limited edition products which come in specially designed packages by artist Tsuyoshi Hirano

Shu_Umenra_artofhair_fashionsfinest_blog

I have only recently been introduced to this brand through a recommendation by a friend. I purchased some of their hair products and was immediately impressed. The packaging struck me straight away. Sleek, sophisticated and stylish with an oriental flair. They looked so beautiful it was hard to open them but I was delighted to find the products lived up to the packaging. The bottles are beautiful colours of green and purpled with elegant curves and simplistic in a way the Japanese do so well. My favourite products are the Shu Uemura Art of Hair – Moisture Velvet Nourishing Treatment Mask, which left my hair feeling nourished, soft and with incredible shine. A rival to my usual Kérastase Masque Intense. My other favourite is their 'Essence Absolue Nourishing Protective Oil' which is a great hair oil with the key ingredient of Camellie Oil. I use this on damp hair before blow-drying and also as a finishing oil afterwards on dry hair. It really works to prevent frizz, moisturise my hair and has a fresh, subtle floral smell. Most importantly it's non-greasy and doesn't weigh down my fine hair. Definitely a keeper! I'm looking forward to trying out their make-up and skin care ranges and will definitely be getting my hands on a limited edition bottle of the facial cleansing oil before it sells out.
