From Emilio Pucci's leather mini skirts and Gucci's printed silk dresses to Elie Saab, Givenchy, Hermes and Dolce & Gabbana, who all featured this cosy colour into their collections; the fashion week scene was loving the burgundy revival.
So it's fair to say that burgundy is a huge trend for Autumn. High street stores such as Zara, H&M, Warehouse and Topshop have filled their stores to bursting with lovely warm variations of the shade in an array of styles. Whether it's a statement skirt in dark aubergine or a pair of comfy leather boots in an earthy, reddish colour, this is the hue to be seen in this year.
The colour burgundy, usually associated with the famous French wine, is a tone which suits most skin tones. For lighter skin, opt for a light shade such as dark fuchsia or a red. Matching this with your lipstick or nails is also a nice touch for any outfit. If you have darker skin, then this colour is a perfect match. Try a soft magenta or maroon dress, as seen at Victoria Beckham and Etro for the ultimate statement piece. Burgundy is a such a warm yet fresh colour that working this into your wardrobe in one way or another is definitely a good fashion move. Plus, once in a while this colour pops up during the international catwalk shows - so it's an investment colour, if that term exists!
For a braver option, colour clashing burgundy with a brighter shade looks amazing and will earn you a big tick in the style stakes. Maroon and yellow go really well together (trust me!) as do similar shades such as pinks and reds. Accessorise your look with gold jewellery and a chic bag and that's burgundy sorted. If standing out in a crowd is not your thing, try mixing the colour into your outfit more subtlety. A dark magenta belt, sunglasses with a dark purple rim or even just a maroon knit scarf will instantly lift any look. This colour also looks very chic and sophisticated with black, as seen at Emporio Armani.
