A celebration the achievements in Artistic Practitioners of African descent in Film & Theatre in Britain.

Committed to celebration the achievements in Artistic Practitioners of African descent in Film & Theatre in Britain the The Merit Awards for Excellence is designed to heighten interest and exposure to the positive work of the many people of African descent in film, television, music and theatre who in other circumstances would be unlikely to receive the recognition they deserve.

The brain child of Yomi Oyekanmi CEO of Ogeyinka Theatre and Chermiah Heart Director of Hart Culture this Black tie and traditional wear annual non-profit event celebrated its 2nd year aboard the exclusive HMS President Ship in West London.

Hosts for the evening were Samyra Gellatly De La Torrezz, Kayode Akintemi and the DJ for the evening was Errol Tompson of Soul to Soul. Attendees were treated to a buffet of African dishes, courtesy of 'African cuisine kitchen' with Rum & Guinness Punch courtesy of Mummy's Punch. Entertainment came in the form of authentic African performances and entertainment throughout the night. However I have to mention the extremely talented Camara Fearon who wowed us all with her wonderful voice and extraordinary writing skills at the tender age of 14!

Award winners on the night included Chucky Venn, David Oyelowo, Tupele Dorgu, Jocelyn Jee Esien and Fashions finest very own Mr. Mahogany Sola Oyebade was nominated for and won the Most outstanding achievement award.
