May brings us the 66th Cannes Film Festival and the excitement is growing as new details emerge by the day. From the 15th to the 26th of May, Cannes will be transformed into a buzzing, Hollywood A-list filled circus as 35,000 film professionals and over 4,000 journalists descend on the French Riviera. This year's poster was released last week – featuring Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward kissing in a shot taken on the set of "A New Kind of Love" in 1963.
Opening honours go to the much anticipated 'The Great Gatsby' directed by Baz Luhrmann and staring Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan. Yes that means Leonardo DiCaprio will be gracing the Cannes Film Festival for the first time since 2007. Hopefully we will see him donning an off-white suit like the Brooks Brothers creations he wears in the film.
I am so excited to see what pieces Carey Mulligan will chose to wear. We know she is a long -time fan of Prada, choosing to wear their designs to the Met Ball last year and for her wedding last April. Prada also happens to have selected items from their archive to be adapted for The Great Gatsby. With her unique style and the influence from the 20's costumes, I think we are going to be in for a treat!
After seeing the paparazzi shots from the shooting in Sydney and the stunning images that have been released I think it's going to be a great film with a combination of high class acting and amazing fashion. Just look at the hair, the head scarf, the pearls, the purple fur stole! And, of course the diamonds, courtesy of Tiffany's & Co. What more could you ask for? This film is definitely one to watch and a big contender for the Palme d'Or.
Last year's festival saw a trend for chiffon, nudes, and marine colours. Diane Kruger, who was a member of the jury, stole the show. She looked flawless in a selection of elegant couture pieces. My favourite being the custom made, white lace embroidered gown by Nina Ricci. The dress had ostrich feather embellishments and white and lilac appliques on the shoulder, she teamed it with a relaxed gathered and twisted updo and subtle make-up. Gorgeous and a perfect look for Cannes.
This year I think will we will see lots of bright graphic prints, dresses with sheer detailing and a noticeable influence of the 20's with old school glamour and an abundance of chic accessories.
There are many rumours of who else we can expect to attend the festival. These include Emma Watson, James Caan, Mila Kunis, Clive Owen, Zoe Saldana, Cate Blanchett, Matt Damon, Natalie Portman, Rachel McAdams, Ryan Gosling, Tilda Swinton, Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence. All have films coming out this year.
The full release of the nominations should be out soon.
