Africa Fashion Day Berlin

After our the successful premiere at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin on January 15th which was widely covered by national and international media.
Africa Fashion Day Berlin again showcases international designers from Africa and the African diaspora. We are honoured to unveil the patron of our event is Dr. Auma Obama.

Our runway show presents the collection of British-Jamaican fashion designer Romero Bryan who worked together with celebrities such as Destiny' Child, Samantha Mumba and Alicia Keys. On board is also Arrey Kono from Cameroon, renowned for the impeccable sense of style of her designs and enjoys equal popularity with media and customers. And we introduce Angolan designer Nadir Tati, winner of the the 'Best Designer of the Year' Award of the Angolan fashion event Moda Luanda for three consecutive years. Accessories are provided by designer Annerose Muyombano whose MUYOMBANO Jewellery collection is an expresses pure aesthetics, femininity and strength. Myombano combines excellent craftsmanship with design and dedication and were represented by Luminaire at the Art Basel in Miami in 2011. Join us on July, 2nd at 9.30 pm at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

Auma Obama, patron of the Africa Fashion Day Berlin, says about her support for the event: "Africa is increasingly seen as a continent with complex cultures and traditions which generates unique and distinct talents. In many ways, Africa can and must be regarded as an equal partner in the creative sector by now. Africa Fashion Day Berlin is an excellent example for this development. It is perfectly suited to demonstrate Africa's growing self-awareness and presence on the world stage."

A press conference will take place at 12 pm at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development with our patron Dr. Auma Obama. The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development has supported an exhibition with photographs of creations from designers who participated in our runway show in January. The exhibition can be viewed at the premises of the Ministry.
Please join us after the show for an exclusive soirée at the Hotel Indigo Berlin Ku'damm to intensify contacts with the designers and other representatives from the African fashion industry. In cooperation with Africa Fashion Day Berlin, Germany's Foreign Office has invited a delegation of fashion journalists, bloggers, designers and other members of the fashion scene from several African countries who will also attend our soirée.

Africa Fashion Day Berlin is a unique communication platform that represents the high-end lifestyle segment of the fashion scene from from Africa and the African diaspora in Germany. We bring fashion on the catwalk that is modern and cosmopolitan. Our designers are inspired by their individual visions as well as global trends from across the world.

We Aim:

• To introduce designers from Africa and the African diaspora to the German fashion industry and to promote fashion from Africa and the diaspora which is diverse, young, urban, and combines high-quality standards with a global orientation;

• To establish a networking platform and to foster knowlegde exchange between fashion designers and producers from Africa, the Caribbean and Europe;
• To support the production of fashion and accessoires in African countries according to fairtrade and social standards.

Beatrace Angut Oola, founder of Africa Fashion Day Berlin, says: „For us it is important to introduce a new perspective to the prevailing fashion landscape in Germany. The young and modern African fashion scene is without any doubt an enrichment to the Berlin Fashion Week."
