Top Model of Colour (TMC) announced the winner of its eighth season at a spectacular event at London's Grand Connaught Rooms on Saturday. With more guests than any year to date, organisers were proud to see interest in the competition from fashionistas and professionals from all areas of the fashion industry.
Presented by Gayle Thompson, actress and model for Mahogany Models Modelling Agency, the event included lively entertainment from Mekeart Tribe traditional dancers and sets from singers P.Nology from The X Factor 2012 and Antix. Smiling guests enjoyed Malibran Organic Prosecco at the exclusive VIP reception while mingling with the judges including Head Judge Mr Gorgeous and Guest Judge Andrew Patterson, Creative Director of America's Next Top Model.
The event is the culmination of months of work, for TMC, judges and the competitors, who are required to submit a full portfolio and demonstrate talent and knowledge in a number of preshow judging panels. After a tough competition, TMC is proud to announce that this year's winner is the beautiful Kiane Ashman‐Swaby. Explaining what set Kiane apart, Judge Andrew Patterson said, "Kiane has the beauty to make a real model of herself in this industry. Out of the girls she stood out as having immediate potential. I wish her the best of luck with her new contract and look forward to seeing what she accomplishes".
Past winners of TMC have gone on to undertake significant contracts with international and globally known fashion companies. Kiane is overjoyed to have won and is looking forward to taking the next steps in her modelling career: "I am truly thrilled to have won Top Model of Colour Season Eight. Now that I am with Mahogany Models Modelling Agency I am hoping it will enhance my modelling career further as I am a dedicated young lady who always exercises a positive and professional attitude and is committed to succeeding in all that I desire."
Sola Oyebade, CEO of Mahogany International said of the event "This year's competition was extremely competitive and any number of the finalists could have won. TMC continues to strive to make a difference for models of colour within the mainstream modelling industry, with an outstanding winner such as Kiane, I believe that this will continue as she follows in the footsteps of previous winners and goes on to become extremely successful in her career".
Everyone at Top Model of Colour would like to congratulate Kiane and will be looking out for her on the runways of the future!
