Tips to Prep-up Your Feet for the Summer

Most people ignore their feet throughout winters. Mostly layered up in warm socks, little attention is paid to foot care and hygiene. By the time summer comes, people struggle with cracked and flaky feet.

The nails get dry and brittle; they also lose their natural, warm colour.

The first step in caring for your feet is to exfoliate the skin. It is important to remove the dead skin cells before doing anything else. One of the easiest ways to exfoliate your skin is to use a scrub. You can make a homemade scrub out of coconut oil and rock salt to smooth out the rough edges of your feet. Another way to exfoliate is to use a pumice stone. Lather up your feet with a cleanser and run a wet pumice stone across your feet. Rub it on the skin while applying a little pressure to remove the dead skin.

Care For Your Nails

Keeping your nails trimmed and shaped is essential for maintaining good hygiene. It also gives a nice ‘salon-ready’ look and feel to the feet. Soak your feet in water for about ten minutes to soften the nails. This makes them easier to cut and trim. After trimming, use a nail filer to file your nails and shape them as per your liking. If you have dry or brittle nails, you can apply a little nail cream or even Vaseline to your nails before going to bed. It will restore the nails.


A harsh winter will leave your feet parched and dry. To prep them up for the summer, moisturising is key. You can use a lotion or a moisturiser or even a body butter to help hydrate your dry feet. While applying the moisturiser, pay special attention to areas like cracked heels. If your feet are excessively dry, you can also use home remedies such as green tea bags or whip up a mask of coconut oil and cucumber to moisturise your feet.

Massage Your Feet

Massaging your feet is important for a variety of reasons. It is a great way to increase blood circulation, reduce tension and ease aches or pains. Use a little warm oil to gently massage your feet. It will leave your feet feeling fresh and revitalised; it will give your feet a beautiful, warm glow. You can also add a few drops of essential oil while massaging the feet for a relaxing experience.
