There are some cities in the world where fashion is just in the atmosphere and wherever you go, you find well dressed people who look like they just stepped out from the pages of the fashion catalogue... Singapore is definitely on this list. The small island in south-east Asia has a growing fashion industry and amazing shopping opportunities. Huge air-conditioned shopping malls just wait to be discovered and it's so easy to get from one place to another.

Shopping is actually one of the main activities for most Singaporeans. Because of the well-established economy and a high-living standard, people tend to spend a lot of money and they do care both about their appearance and the clothes they wear. Orchard Road – the main shopping street in the city – offers something for everyone. From high-end designers and established brands like Dior and Prada to smaller local boutiques and high-street chains like Zara or GAP. You can find both luxurious and affordable items in one place.

Singaporean style is mostly determined by the weather – hot and humid all year round – so the local designers concentrate mainly on Summer collections, using light fabrics and simple cut. Young women in Singapore have a very feminine and girly style. They wear mostly dresses and skirts, in light colours, flat or high-heeled sandals and a lot of make-up. They are very fashion and beauty conscious, always on top of the latest trends. A lot of girls have their own fashion boutiques or sells clothes online. They often import them from other Asian countries like Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong or Korea. In many cases the owners of those small businesses travel to all the places themselves to make sure that they pick the most interesting and unique pieces for their stores.

One of my favourite Singaporean brands is a chain store called Bysi which won a Singapore Prestige Brand Award in 2008.Their collections are unique and refreshing, following the trends, but somehow a little bit different then what you can find in other mainstream stores. Good quality fabrics, interesting cut, great merchandising and excellent customer service – they all make a shopping experience at Bysi a truly unforgettable experience.

I was working in Singapore as a model and all together I spent more then six months over there. It was probably one of the best experiences ever and I can't wait to go back... It's actually kind of hard to live anywhere else as you get used to everything around you being so perfect – clean streets, polite people, efficient transport – Singapore has it all. And beautiful sunshine all year round... When you get tired of shopping and the city life, you just take a train to Sentosa Island and spend the weekend on the beach.
