Fashions Finest SS18 celebrates a star-studded season and its first ever ‘Let’s Talk Fashion Business’ Panel discussion.
AKAME is a young brand, established by student Admir Kapich, who is currently finishing his master study in fashion design at Esmod Berlin. He wanted his brand to grow and evolve with him during his studies. While researching different styles and aesthetics, he found that attention to details, research, drawing and nature, presents a significant part in his work. Therefore AKAME is dedicated to art and culture. Admir would like to take his brand to the road where he can merge art and craft of today with a vision of future. He dreams to find new aesthetic, a silhouette- one that belongs only to AKAME.
Another element that Admir wants to embrace is Sustainability. Since nature is fundamental to him, taking care of materials and production is very important. Fashion in his eyes is there always to embrace change and improvement. Therefore sustainable approach is essential in his design process.
War & Drobe garments are proudly handmade in London by founder and creator of the label Nina Kovacevic. As a child Nina came to London fleeing the war from former Yugoslavia. It was during this time that her mother taught her the power of fashion and the strength it can bring. The label was named and born out of a love for empowering women through fashion and allowing them to feel fierce and feminine in their day to day lives. Having studied Fine Art at Central Saint Martins, Nina went on to develop her skills training under a tailor, couturier and working in a lingerie studio. She collates her past experiences, technical knowledge and creative background to bring to life collections with a purpose.
By slowing down the making process and never mass producing clothing, War & Drobe celebrates and preserves traditional artisanal sewing techniques. Crafting clothing consciously is at the heart of the label, that’s why all fabrics used are already in existence and sourced from British suppliers. As a sustainable fashion label War & Drobe looks at the full life cycle of the garments and what impact they leave. Detailed such as bespoke metal buttons that are crafted in London and sewn onto immaculately finished garments make each piece an item to be treasured. War & Drobe launched in the summer of 2016 with the ready to wear collection becoming available on the online shop in Jan 2017. As the label grows, Nina explores new and inventive ways to create sustainable garments that stand the test of time both in style and quality.
Tahra Nketia comes from a family of seamstresses and designers most notably her grandmother and aunt who had a huge influence in her formative years. Tahra's first design experience came in the form of designing mini couture collections for her Barbie dolls as a child. Tahra was also heavily influenced by the glamorous black and white movies and shows of the 70’s such as Charlie's angels, which she would watch obsessively dreaming up her of adaptations to what was on screen.
Tahra Nketia later studied at LCCA before branching out to start her own label and follow her dreams.
Tahra has strong ethical and environmental beliefs and well as being a staunch advocate for the empowerment of less economically privileged people. She first started out designing having the designs sewn by under privileged seamstresses in Ghana. Going forward Tahra hopes to reintroduce this initiative to further develop the brands ethical ethos.
Within a year of the brands inception it has gained notoriety through numerous social media outlets such as popular blog Baller Alert. The brand has designed for the host of Hermes crazy carre event, social media celebrities including NFL player Cam Newton's fiancé Kia Proctor as well as a host of other online personalities.
