Hot Hair Trends This Winter

The days are getting cooler, the dark nights are already here, we wrap up in big jumpers, coats, scarfs and hats but don't let that stop you from looking beautiful. Look forward to the new season by trying out some of the new hottest hair trends. From a classic French twist with a modern update, low ponytails or my personal key hair trend bohemian waves there's something pretty for everyone this new season.

The Low Ponytail

Messy or sleek, side or straight, the low ponytail is big this season. The trick to the trend is to wear it very low. Choose a messy low ponytail for the daytime and by night opt for a sleek sophisticated look wither straight or to the side. If you're wearing one of winters hot metallic eye makeup trends why not wrap some metal around the ponytail.

French Twist

A classic French twist with a difference is massive this season after seeing it on the catwalk with both Chanel and Tom Ford amongst others. The key to the trend is to make the twist looser and younger. Make it much messier or try adding waves to the hair first, hold the twist with statement pins or ribbon.

Bohemian Waves

My key hair trend is exactly this. Beautiful long, thick, textured kinky waves that simply look like you plaited your hair wet and let it air dry; and why not do exactly that? If you don't want to leave your hair to dry in plaits simply spray some sea salt spray into damp hair before drying

Invisibobble: The traceless hair ring

If you need a hairband that will not get wet when you are at the beach or even at your local swimming pool then invisibobble is the hairband for you. Invisibobble is a traceless hair ring, what this means for you is that after you remove them from your hair, whether your hair is straight, curly or frizzy it will not leave a kink or mark in your hair. Even after hours of use it will leave no trace of being there.

At long last we can finally say goodbye to the kinks that we would have to spend extra time on before leaving the house. Unlike other hairbands invisibobble will not leave you with hair breakage, which I know we could all do without. I am using invisibobbles in my weave at the moment and it does not tug at the hair like other bands I have used in the past. I pay too much for my weave to have it pulled out when I remove my hairband.

Invisibobbles look like the old telephone cords and come in several different colours. I was lucky enough to be gifted with a few pink, yellow, black and clear ones. Even after the invisibobble is stretched it will always return to its natural shape so you are getting value for money when you buy them. You will not have to replace them on a weekly basis like I had to with other bands.

My favourite fact about the invisibobble is that they do not get soaked in water, one thing I cannot stand is a soggy hairband. I now use invisibobbles when I go for a run, go swimming and for most of my daily activities.

You can purchase invisibobbles online or from Boots, Topshop and Urban Outfitters from 4 pounds for 3.

That’s right, poker straight hair flattened with straightening irons is once again coming back with a bang as we head into the autumn season and GHD which stands for ‘good hair day’ are ahead of the game by introducing their new platinum series of hair straighteners.

Straight hair is one of the most wished for features by thousands of women across the globe along with fighting the frizz and shiny luscious locks. GHD have created a new miracle straightener that promises to tackle all.

The platinum series promises to deliver the ultimate styling results with a healthier, stronger and shiner finish by being made with tri zone technology of three senses in each plate to ensure that the temperature of the straightener is maintained across the entire plate from root to tip. With a maximum temperature of 180 degrees these new irons promise to reduce hair breakage by over 50 percent and increasing shine by 20 percent.

GHD have certainly delivered with their new series of straighteners ready for the new autumn hair trend…

Follow my tips for perfect healthy poker straight locks

• When straightening the hair always make sure you have given the hair plenty of moisture by applying a leave in conditioner after washing like Tigi Bed Head Ego Boost.

• Before straightening apply a heat protection product from roots to ends like GHD Heat Protect.

• Section the hair into 4 quarters, and take small sections from each quarter as you work the straighteners through.

• Use a small comb as you glide the straighteners through the hair, this not only tackles any knots but also helps in creating the smooth poker straight effect.

• When straightening, leave 2cm at the roots untouched from the straighteners, this will leave volume to your locks.

• Always leave 1cm at the ends untouched to help avoid split ends.

• Finish with a moisture hair serum.

GHD Platinum series available in black, white and baby pink for 165 from www.ghdhair.com

Hair care From Salon Science

 IMG 1410

My hair texture is fine, professionally highlighted, tends to dry out on the ends and its naturally curly, with a tendency to frizz and fly out in all directions.

I’ve been using both products for over a week now. I only used small amount of mousse to start with but slightly larger amount that suggested on the packaging works better with my fine hair. Both products work best when used together, however the mousse worked best on my towel dried hair, after I brushed it. After I dried my hair I used small amount of oil to smooth the waves.

Overall, I am pretty impressed by both products – hair stays nice silky texture for about two days without the need for washing and the ends aren’t drying out. The hair keeps its shape and there is no uncontrollable frizzing. I only needed to use a bit of the serum in the morning to get the hair under control without having to wash it again. I prefer both products to similar hair products that I’ve been using so far.
