Since being a makeup artist I’ve often found that one of the most popular questions inspiring makeup artists often ask me is how do you do male grooming?? So I thought it was time to let everyone in on my male grooming process; and with the permission from the lovely Vangelis Polydorou semi-finalist from this year’s BBC The Voice I’m happy to show you how.
Almost 9/10 times with male grooming the key is to give him a healthy looking almost invisible makeup look. It’s important that the skin is visible to the eye and not a face full of makeup. Makeup on a man can look artificial if not done correctly.
Follow my steps on how I achieved perfect male grooming on Vangelis:
Skin prepping as with women’s makeup is my KEY element to perfect face makeup. The difference between male and female skin is that males skin contains a lot more oil. As a makeup artist you need to tame and control the oil. You do this by adding a product with water and vitamin B6.
I began with cleansing Vangelis’s gorgeous skin using Nude Skincare; Perfect Cleanse omega cleansing jelly to clean away all impurities. I love that this product is a natural formula and leaves the skin clean and fresh with a natural healthy glow – yes men should have a healthy looking glow too.
Secondly spray on Urban Decay’s B6 Vitamin-Infused Complexion Prep Spray. The B6 vitamin in this product absorbs any unwanted oil found in male’s skin. You can also use this miracle bottle anytime throughout the day to refresh his skin or take away any excess oil that may shine through.
Moisturise; never miss this step. As long as you use the right moisturiser you will never add extra unwanted oil to the skin. I use Clarins Men Super Moisture Gel.
Concealer: unlike a woman we don’t want to brighten under the eyes with a concealer, so instead of using a highlighted liquid based concealer use a flat cream. I used the Mac Pro Conceal palette. Remembering how important it is to keep male’s makeup visible, dot on the cream based concealer where you see the deep undertones underneath the eye. It usually looks like a line from the inner corner of the eye stretching underneath. Pat your product in with your fingers. It’s important to leave the natural skin tone right under the eyelashes, so avoid placing concealer in that area. You can apply the concealer underneath the foundation or over as we’re not brightening the area just neutralising the tones.
Foundation: Don’t apply a thick coverage, this will look false. It’s important that you look at a man’s skin differently to a woman’s; you want to keep the different tones in the skin. The forehead may be darker to the cheeks, or the cheeks darker to the nose. It is very important that you see this and use different tones of foundation in the different areas. Applying one colour all over a man’s face will make him look very artificial, too even. When applying, avoid any stubble or facial hair, try applying with a beauty blender as opposed to a brush to give a shearer coverage. Opt for a tinted moisturiser or BB cream. I used Mac Prep + Prime BB Beauty Balm and Bare Minerals complexion rescue.
Powder: Apply using a big brush. You don’t want to apply a matte flat powder, the aim is to keep the skin healthy and visible. I used Mac blotting powder.
Bronzer: This really depends on the individual. But always remember to use a matte bronzer. Simply sweep over the face to warm up the skin or use as a contour to show off striking cheekbones.
Brows: Depending on the man and the brows, you can get away with a quick comb and set with a clear brow gel. On Vangelis I filled in his brows to make them look slightly darker as he was performing on stage so we wanted them to be visible. I used Benefit Cosmetics Brow Zings, Gimme brow and brow setter.
Eyelashes: This really depends on the individual and what they like. It’s very common that a male doesn’t like his eyelashes coloured, if not, simply brush clear mascara through them. Again as Vangelis was performing on stage we opted for colour. I used Benefit Cosmetics They’re real tinted primer – a brown tinted eyelash primer.
Lips: Simple, a bit of balm. I used Dr.PawPaw Original balm.
Any questions, feel free to comment and I’ll answer.
Who does not love a pool party? And I am sure that over the course of the summer you will have several to attend. And because a pool party requires you to dress down. You can virtually go in just your bikini if you want to but if you do need to cover, here is some simple layers to add to your swimwear.
Slip on a Skirt
The quickest and easiest thing to slip on and off is a skirt, like this embroider skirt from Monsoon and pair it with a one pieces like the Evangelina red plunge swimsuit from Pretty Little Thing, with white sandals from Primark.
Another great embroider maxi skirt from Monsoon and or these printed shorts from Primark with flat slip-ons from Dune. Ethnic print Bikini Top from Primark, Embroider Bikini Top from Accessorize.
Dazzle in a Dress
For a sexy vibe opt for a playsuit like this tropical print one from Miss Selfridge and the pink and blue leafy print bikini from Accessorize with these flat gold, front tassel fringed detailed flat sandals from Dune
I have been recently gifted with a few treats from cosyfeet.com. I received a Rose body lotion, Rose moisturising cream, Rose cleanser and Rose toner. I have always loved Rose scented bubble bath but to be honest that was the only product with Rose I had ever tried. I had been told me about these products a few months ago but unfortunately I had not got hold of any. I have just learned that my face and body have been missing out on being completely pampered with these Rose products.
Every morning and evening I have been using the Rose cleanser, toner and moisturising cream on my face and using the Rose body lotion everywhere else on my body once a day. It has made such a difference to my skin.
My face is clearer and feels so fresh throughout the day and my legs have never been so silky which is wonderful as it is now dress and skirt season. One of the best things about the body lotion and moisturising cream is that they easily rub into your skin and makes it feel instantly soft. The Rose scent is beautiful and strong but yet not overpowering like other scented beauty products that I have tried in the past.
Even though these Rose products provide you with all the luxury that I am sure you deserve, they all cost less than £50. If you would like your face and body to feel and look as fantastic as mine then get your products at www.cosyfeet.com.

Maison de Mode, a US-based online luxury fashion retailer, prides itself in showcasing fashion that represents sustainability. Unfortunately, sustainability has been an ambiguous word thrown around to make products more appealing to consumers, lobbyists and other members of the public. But what does it really mean? Is sustainability relatable and directly linked to the consumer? And the big question for fashionistas- is style comprised on the platfotform of ethical standards in fashion?
Maison de Mode does a great job in bridging the gap between consumers and such standards: it is now easier to understand how your every day fashion choices can make an impact in our society and environment- without all the sustainability jargon!
See what it's designers are doing to earn the sustainability badge:
Achu Parpat Vintag (by Mola Sasa)
Mola Sasa used artisanal techniques with beautiful intricate woven details in this bag. Creating handmade pieces means artisans can compete in a world of homogenised mass production. Let's not forget the recycled materials used, which means we can be more responsible for the materials we consume.
Kimono Dress Shirt (by Maiyet)
It's great when high-end designers promote small, artisanal designers. Many companies take advantage of work factories in developing countries- it's nice to see that individual designers and dress makers can be paid decently for what they do- without compromising on quality. Maiyet also donate a portion of their proceeds to ocean-related charities. Not bad!
Oversized long coat (by Shipper)
Shipper partners with organisations that help sustainable businesses which allows them to grow and make profits. So as you lavish yourself in this tweed coat, you'll feel even better knowing that you also contributed to the success of other sustainable businesses!
What are your thoughts on sustainable businesses in fashion?
Sunday is family day in our house. It’s not so much a day of rest but a day of doing. We like to spend time with the children just hanging out with no plans and no stress. We decide what to do as we’re doing it and as with most outings it usually starts or ends with food and drink.
Today wasn’t any different. We headed out to the Greenwich Peninsular (think O2, Emirates Cable Cars and surrounding areas). We originally intended to go to the Greenwich Ecology Park which is amazing for the children as they can bird watch, pond dip and spot water scorpions but as we approached the river, I was side tracked by the distant beat of an African drum.
We stumbled across the Urban Village Fete and let me tell you, it was the best day out we’ve had as a family in ages! The atmosphere was amazing, the sun was shining and there was literally everything there from music to crafts, food and drink, clothes and even luxury dog food!
The Urban Village Fete was set up to put a spin on the traditional fayre. It was colourful. It was modern. It was innovative. Even the cranes that littered the Thames skyline were coloured! The fete attracted a really good mix of local suppliers, craftsmen and performers. At one point, the DJ was taking requests from the public which resulted in about 100 people dancing on green grass banks to Madness’ Baggy Trousers – coming from Liverpool, it was a pivotal cockney moment for me and it was a pleasure to join in with the crowd!
There were so many cool people selling their wares but my favourites definitely were Little Sparrow Tea, Pinkster Gin and the Bus Bar Company – all drink related, go figure!
We Brits love our tea and I am no exception to that rule. Imagine my excitement when I found Little Sparrow Tea that claims “each cup of tea represents an imaginary voyage”. I kid you not, the display was mesmerising! I tried the Russian Caravan and sure enough I was transported straight to a trail of caravans transporting tea from China to Europe via Russia. It’s said that the smokiness of the flavour comes from the fires lit at night to keep the tea transporters warm. It definitely warmed me up!
Next up was Pinkster Gin, totally English with its HQ out near Cambridge. It’s a pink artisan gin made from berries and it’s so tastily refreshing. My summer is most definitely sorted!
After browsing the stalls, we took the children to the activity area where they drew, made paper vegetables and made dream books for the library. This was great as I instil in them to work hard for everything so writing down their dream got them thinking as to how they will achieve it. They now realise it’s not so easy to get to Disney Land after all!
I absolutely adore days filled with random surprises and this didn’t disappoint. I was spotted taking colourful photographers by another photographer which resulted in my pictures being included in her gallery. When you’re out doing what you love and people you don’t know show their appreciation, it totally makes everything you strive for worthwhile.
Before heading home we, we sat chatting to revellers who had perched themselves with direct access to the Bus Bar Company – an old route master totally kitted out as a travelling pub. As I sat listening to the music, watching the people and seeing my children enjoying themselves, I felt utterly grateful to live in such a buzzing, thriving city where you can go out for a leisurely walk and happen upon a totally adventurous day.
Sundays were most definitely not made to be lazy!

With our busy lifestyles, spending long hours staring at a computer screen in heat conditioned offices and then heading off to party in windy conditions, as fun as it might be, takes a heavy toll on our health, including our eyes.
The environmental conditions combined with all those hours spend in front of a computer and enjoying our crazy social life, as well as the “not so nice” hay fever season leaves ours eyes feeling tired, dry, red and puffy and add to that an annoying headache. Believe me it is not a nice place for your eyes to be in.
I can vouch for that, as a sufferer of daily itchy irritated sore eyes. So you can image my joy when I was asked to try out the Bio True –re wetting drops and the Bio and Thera Pearl Eye-ssential mask.
First let’s get the business part out of the way with some product Facts
The Bio True rewetting drops comes in a 10ml dispenser with control grip making it easy to use in the office, during leisure time or while travelling. It is also preservative free and can be used for six months once opened.
It delivers instant and natural hydration because of its specific preservative free formulation based on hyaluronic acid.
The drops contain hyaluronic acid (HA), a favorite ingredient in beauty and skincare products. It is this essential ingredient that helps to keep your eyes lubricated and hydrated.
I tried the drops first as I suffer from daily itchy irritated sore eyes and was really looking for something to give me greater relieve, then previous products I have tried. I found that with Biotrue rewetting drops, instantly hydrated my eyes allowing me to get back to glaring at my computer screen.
I did however have one little problem with it, and it was that I found the blue bit, on the dispenser, that you have to push down a little awkward and would have preferred a squeeze bottle. But other than that I love the product and would highly recommend it.
Thera Pearl Eye-ssential Eye Mask
Provides 20minutes of soothing stress relief and relaxation, it also reduces puffy eyes and relieves headaches. What’s more it is re-useable so you can use it for 20minutes every day. The mask uses unique Pearl Technology which means it can retain its temperature.
When used cold, THERA°PEARL® Eye-ssential Mask
• Relieves puffy eyes
• Takes the sting out of a brow wax
• Relieves headaches
When used hot, THERA°PEARL® Eye-ssential Mask
• Provides soothing stress relief
• Relieves symptoms of dry eye/computer strained eyes, as well as blepharitis, and it can also treat Styes
Headaches are the biggest annoyance to me and because I am not a fan of painkillers. I often go to bed with a headache only to wake up with the same annoying headache. So the THERA°PEARL® Eye-ssential Mask, wow a perfect product. My headache was gone before I even got under the covers and I woke up the next morning feeling refreshed and headache free.
Get your Bio true –re wetting eye drops in Boots and Superdrug. The eye drops come in a handy 10ml dispenser (£9.49), which can be used for six months once opened. They also come in single-dose packs (£6.49) Just the right size, to carry around with you in your handbag, to use wherever and when you need relieve from dry itchy eyes.
THERA°PEARL® Eye-ssential Mask is available from Superdrug RRP £7.99
Being a child of Caribbean descent Palmers Coca butter was one of the main beauty staples in my house (No one was leaving the house with no dry arms and legs), so of course I jumped at the chance to check out their award-winning Coconut Oil Formula range which includes a Body Lotion, Hand Cream, Body Cream and Body Oil.
I had been incorporating coconut oil in to my skin and hair care regime for some time now so it’s nice to cut out the middleman as brands are realizing the many benefits of including coconut oil in their products.
The Coconut Oil Formal aside from smelling amazing and leaving my skin feeling soft supple and moisturized without feeling greasy consist of mainly ethically and sustainably sourced raw, organic Coconut Oil which is infused with ancient Polynesian sacred oil, Tahitian Monoi Oil and is also free from Parabens, phthalates, mineral oil.
My favorite product from the range is the Palmer’s Coconut Oil Formula Body Oil as I loved the way the oils absorbed into my skin quickly and easily without feeling sticky and left me smelling heavenly.
I also like that fact that you can add a few drops to your bath to make your bathing experience a little bit more luxurious.
Palmer’s Award-winning Coconut Oil Formula range is available for purchase at Boots, Sainsbury’s, Feel Unique and Amazon.

So are you ready to welcome the fine jewellery trends setting up for year 2016? We don’t always have time to discuss the economy or world politics all the time. We all do regular things such as waking up, brushing teeth, getting dressed, open and staring at our closet and try to get the best items there that we actually like. Most of us are also curious about the recent fashion trends and start revamping our closet. In order to inform you about the fine jewelry trends, here are the best jewellery trends for 2016:
1. Oversize Earrings and Diamond Necklaces
Remember the Oscar Awards where many celebrities were wearing oversized earrings and even oversized diamond necklaces to flaunt at the event. You can also get customized earrings depending upon your personal requirements.
2. Statement Necklaces with Finest Crystal Work
This would definitely be one of the popular custom jewelry trends in 2016. The finest crystals working on statement necklaces make you look elegant and charismatic.
Today, we live in a global world and no more appreciate things merely on the basis of their religious association. You are now free to choose any rustic jewelry pieces or any customized jewelry without any hesitation of being judged by others. ‘Crosses’ is one of the finest and religiously customized jewelry items which is expected to be echoing in the jewelry market in 2016.
I am not kidding. Chains would definitely be back in fashion and it would also be coming in different forms such as palm bracelets, chokers, belts and double chain earrings in different colors, sizes and shapes.
This trend will remain evergreen or would be trending at least for a long time. Their geometric forms, conventional designing and a chain fragment to make a hoop make them the fine jewelry items globally.
Spring and florals are one and the same but if you are not into florals you will need a new print to rotate into your spring/summer wardrobe. So if florals are not your thing, why not try out these prints.
Bold and in your face, rainbow stripes are not for the faint hearted, but it offers a welcome alternative to the traditional black and white stripes.

Before I married my husband I didn’t pay too much attention to fashion. I was a student and happy in thrift store hand-me-downs, mixed with high street latest must-haves. Then, I was a traveller and spent the best part of 18months hanging around beaches in Thai fishing pants and flip flops. My nails were chipped and unpainted. My hair was bleached and crispy from the sun and my lips hadn’t been glossed in months!
Marrying an Italian was a revelation. Having style is like breathing air in Italy. The nation is brought up on “la bella figura” which literally translated means “a good figure”. It’s better understood as “a good image” and of course, Italians love to have a good image!
I had to up my game. I had just married into a country where Valentino designs the police uniforms and the footballers are kitted out by Armarni! Slowly I introduced colour into my wardrobe, I wore nail varnish and make-up and over time, I “Italianised” myself.
Italian fashion is so effortless. When I’m in Italy there’s nothing better than sitting at a cafe in a piazza and watching the world go by. The girls look glamorous and the men look polished. They don’t even try. I make so much more of an effort with my appearance when I’m in Italy. It’s not a case of fitting in but more a case of not standing out!
Here are my top 5 tips for achieving the Italian look, Street Style:
1) Accessories – Italians, male and female, love to match! Never leave home without a bag, necklace and sunglasses. Styles and shapes need to coordinate. If the necklace is small, the ring is huge! There is no age limit on accessories – it’s a cultural norm.
2) Big Hair – Italian women love nothing better than a blow dry. The bigger, the bouncier, the curlier, the better! Looking coiffed is almost a birth right in Italy!
3) Colour – It has to match. Colour coordination is big business. The shoes, the bag, the belt, they all have to complement each other, not necessarily in the same tone but you must accent your outfit.
4) Make-Up – Never EVER leave home without it. If you’re not made up, you have no self respect. Simple as that. Make-up matches the outfit, it finishes you off. Eyes are usually bold and lips soft. Nails and feet must be painted at all times. I don’t think I’ve ever seen my mother in law without varnish!
5) Mess it Up! – Once you’ve done all of the above, mess it up. Don’t look like you’ve worked too hard. You’ve managed the chic, now you need to adopt the style. Street style is huge in Italy when on Saturday’s you’ll find Tewnty-Somethings meandering around the piazza purely to show off their outfit. They’re tailored but trendy, cool but casual.
Italian street style is not about making an effort. It’s about being chic. The women are elegant and feminine whilst the men are suave. Style in Italy comes as easy as eating pasta!

I’m so so excited about the new Urban Decay collaboration with Disney launching on 5th May. Urban Decay have done numerous collaborations with Disney over the years but this is set to be their best.
Teaming up with Disney’s new film ‘Alice Through the Looking Glass’ in cinemas May 27th UD bring you a limited edition, pop-up palette with tribute to their favourite characters from the film along with 5 limited edition shades of lipstick to match.
Using the visually stunning film as their inspiration, UD have created 20 new shades of eyeshadows and based them on their 5 favourite characters Alice, Mad Hatter, Mirana - The White Queen, Iracebeth - The Red Queen and Time - a peculiar creature who is part human, part clock.
The eyeshadow palette is arranged into 5 columns by their 5 favourite characters. Simply use the shades in the columns to steal the iconic character looks or mix them up to create countless others.
Each eyeshadow has been made using UD’s ‘Pigment infusion System’ a blend of ingredients that gives every shade it’s velvety texture, rich in colour with serious staying power and bendability. So whether it be the softer shades inspired by Alice’s look in the film or the bold bright shades seen on The Mad Hatter, each eyeshadow will give you the perfect application.
Team your eye makeup looks with one of the 5 favourite character lipsticks and you will have everything you need to recreate your favourite look from the film.
And what’s more the packaging of the products feature a colourful, kaleidoscopic pattern inspired from the film, flowers, butterfly’s and several quotes from the film make these beautiful new products look pretty in anyone’s makeup bag.

Most people have a desire to wear clothes that are latest and fashionable. But it seems that keeping up with latest fashion without having lots of money in your pocket is really difficult these days. This is because designer label items of clothing and clothes inspired by celebrity clothing are certainly very expensive and out of reach of the common man. However, there are many ways to look fashionable and trendy without breaking the bank or burning a hole in your wallet.
Focus upon classic, timeless items of clothing
If you try to catch up with the latest fashion and buy clothes accordingly, you will find that half of the garments in your wardrobe are such that you have no interest in wearing them. Fashion trends keep on changing and new and stylish clothes start to look outdated pretty quickly. But there are clothing items that remain timeless and classic such as black trouser, little black dress, white skirt, and so on. You can always look fashionable with the help of these classic items of clothing without spending a lot of money.
Buy more with less
There is nothing to worry if you do not have enough money to buy a designer dress for a party next week. Just take out your old party dress and get it ready for the event. Now buy new accessories to wear and carry during the function. Believe me, most people become engrossed with your handbag and the bracelet that you have worn instead of gazing at your dress. These bold and bright accessories give an altogether new look to your old dress and you become a star of the evening.
Keep an eye on sales
It goes without saying that like early bird that catches the worm, you can lay your hands on beautiful and fashionable dresses if you are aware of the end of season and clearance sales being organized by stores in your area. Also subscribe to receive news about discount sales on online stores to make the most of these opportunities.
Be Street Smart
You can look fashionable and trendy in very little money by buying items of clothing from vendors on fashion streets of your city. Believe me, you can beat all your friends wearing designer labels if you buy stylish clothes from street fashion and know how to accessorize to look very glamorous.
Last but not the least, pay attention to your beauty and hair care to dazzle others in cheap clothes and accessories.
