Dior’s Tropical Heat Wave in BrooklynWritten by Hannah Last
Are you excited for Summer? Well, after Raf Simons latest Dior resort collection, believe me, you should be!
Held in Brooklyn, with Rihanna, Anna Wintour and Marion Cotillard on the front row and a host of beautiful, bright clothing displayed before our very eyes, this was a show that truly brought a hint of Summer and idyllic sunshine.
Since arriving at Dior, Simons has brought an effortless minimalist chic to the brand, and this collection was no different. Three black, very stylish trouser suits opened the show in quick succession followed by tropical printed dresses, with matching handbags and silk belts. Colour was on the horizon of every look, with yellow, tangerine and pink pieces complimenting each other, offset against monochrome coats and accessories. Coats played a huge part in this resort 2015 collection, with sporty silhouettes and fine detailing a clear focus. One of the best pieces was in fact a camel coloured coat with orange lining across the collar, looking extremely Parisian and very Dior circa 1990's.
Simons also played with flower prints adorned on a-symmetric dresses which looked very clean and precise; something Dior always focuses on in each and every one of their collections - the finer details in life, with Simons revealing that his main inspiration for the show was simply a silk scarf, which ran throughout the collection beautifully. Colour popped and rocked in a grown up manner, as similar silhouettes from past collections were used to great effect. The iconic shift dress, tiny folds across the waist, billowing skirts and high waisted trousers all seemed to be carried over the Atlantic from the Dior Spring/Summer 2014 show, with great success and uplifted with a hot twist for 2015.
But amongst all this merriness, subdued tones of grey and white brought a more serious mood, that reminded us that not every summer is full of beautiful sunshine, (well, not here in the UK anyway!) The whole collection was impeccably fashioned with so many wearable and deeply desirable pieces that no doubt the most stylish French women will go crazy for. Bring on the Summer!
