When it comes to strengthening your nails, the main thing you need to understand is that they depend on your lifestyle.

Do you consume healthy foods? Do you sleep well? Keep yourself hydrated? And so on? There are a number of factors that influence the strength of our nails. And in addition to using the right products, you can try a variety of DIY treatments for strengthening your nails. Growing healthy nails start with fine-tuning your lifestyle and everyday habits. With that in mind, here are 9 ways you can ensure your nails are strong, thick, and beautiful.

Limit Water Exposure

Water can have a huge impact on your nails. When you wash your dishes, try to wear gloves. And try to avoid soaking your nails in water, including the bath and the pool for too long. The more you can keep your nails outside of water, the stronger they will grow.

Drink Lots Of Water

While you should limit outside water exposure to your nails, you have to keep sure you get enough water from the inside. Hydration is essential to growing healthy nails. If you do not drink enough water, your nails will be dry and brittle. Drinking water ensures your cuticles and nails are getting hydration. Try to keep yourself hydrated throughout the day, and you will feel and look better.

Nail Strengtheners

There are a number of nail strengtheners you can try for strengthening your nails. One that has been proven effective over and over is olive oil. Soaking your fingers in olive oil will strengthen your nails naturally. Some other oils that are just as effective include argan oil, coconut oil, castor oil, tea tree oil, and vitamin E oil. Just pour some oil into a bowl, and soak each hand for 10 minutes. In addition, massage the oil into your nail beds and cuticles to improve circulation. If you want to take things to the next level, soak your fingers before bedtime, and then wear gloves to bed.

Trim Your Nails

Keeping your nails on the shorter side is a surefire recipe for strong nails. Consider cutting down the length of your nails while you build up your strength. There is no point in growing long nails if they are weak and brittle. Short nails are less prone to breaking because their edges are not as exposed to tear.

When you trim your nails, make sure to file down in one direction. Do not go back and forth, as it will cause your nails to peel and split.

Avoid Alcohol-based Hand Sanitizers

We mentioned at the beginning that you should avoid water exposure if you want strong and fine nails. Another thing that can dry your nails out is alcohol-based hand sanitizer. So, with that in mind, avoid these sanitizers to make sure you grow strong and healthy nails.

Prepare Cuticle Oil Treatment

We said before that hydration and moisture are key ingredients for healthy nails. One way to keep your nails and cuticles hydrated is drinking water. Another is by making cuticle oil part of your routine. Instead of cutting your cuticles, we suggest using cuticle softener to keep them soft and moisturized. Apply cuticle oil regularly to your nails, and you will be good to go. Most women go with essential oils cuticle oil to provide hydration, but also nourishment to their nails.

Avoid Using Your Nails As Tools

Some people have a bad and nasty habit of using their nails as tools. For example, when you are opening a soda. Or if you are scratching off a sticker. All of these habits put pressure on the weakest part of your nails. That can lead to breakage and peeling. So, use a different tool. For example, when you need to scratch off a sticker, use a knife to do it.

Be Careful When Cleaning

Water is not the only thing you have to avoid. Basically, you need to avoid exposure to chemicals and detergents and water to have healthy nails. When you are cleaning, you are not aware of all the chemicals you are exposing your nails too. Therefore, protect your nails, and wear gloves while doing household chores.

Make Sure Your Nails Last Longer

To increase the longevity of your nails, you have to take care of them. It is that simple. Do not overuse nail polish remover, as it can dry out your nails. To make your nail color last longer, use a hydrating base and durable top coat. And most importantly, apply polish to the free edge of your nail with every coat.
