It was sunny Los Angeles which played host to Hedi Slimane's Saint Laurent show this week, kicking off proceedings before New York fashion week begins.

Saint Laurent, who usually show at Paris fashion week, mixed things up this season, showing part 1 of their pre-fall womens-wear collection in LA, which will then be followed by their Ready-to-Wear part 2 show in a couple of weeks’ time in Paris.

When you put on any major fashion show in LA, or Sunset Boulevard to be precise, you're bound to have a number of a-list stars sitting on the front row, and this Saint Laurent show was no different. Lady Gaga rocked up in a gold sequinned blazer and messy bed-hair, Justin Bieber cozied up to Courtney Love who as ever favoured a simple slip dress, Sylvester Stallone brought his daughters along while Sam Smith, Ellen Degeneres and Lenny Kravitz lapped it up at the after party. It's fair to say that Slimane has built up a loyal clientele of celebrity following.

And then the show began. With over 90 looks and plenty of rock star attitude, it was yet again another classic Slimane show fusing together the grunge aesthetic of Los Angeles and the music influences of the 70s. There has been a lot of speculation in the last couple of months of whether Slimane will continue on at YSL, yet this collection showed no signs of the designer bowing out in any way and was as strong as ever. Skinny black cigarette pants were paired with silk blouses, dresses came cinched in at the waist decorated with floral patterns and accessories played a big part, such as the cool black neck ties. Red capes rimmed with gold looked amazing while the glossy leather boots stomped down the runway with style and purpose.

Fabrics came shiny and metallic, take a look at the gold midi dress worn by Georgia May Jagger, hair was tousled and looked slightly greasy while long duster coats were paired with black culottes. With the littery eye shadow and embellished jackets, there were times when the clothes could have come straight out of Mick Jagger’s wardrobe. There was a lot of black in this collection, with additional colours subtlety thrown in. But then this is the Hedi Slimane look reflecting his love for looking and dressing like a rockstar, and his fans clearly love it. Trés chic!
