Spain is the primary source of inspiration for Juana Martín, who looked back at the post-Spanish Civil War for her A/W 2023/24 collection: Fieras.
About Fieras A/W 2023/24 Collection: The Concept
For her Autumn/Winter 2023/24 haute couture collection, Juana Martín found her inspiration in the post-Spanish Civil War and the dark atmosphere that surrounded it. Throughout her latest collection, the Cordona-born designer transcends an emotional journey from a sense of destruction and deep sadness to a gradual emergence of peace and freedom.
About the Collection: Sartorial Touches
Each dress has been carefully crafted to tell this story with symbols embellishing each look: the bull, representing the strength of the Spanish people; the eyes representing the government surveillance, and the hands, encircling the dress, as a form of oppression.
This collection places great importance on cubist and abstract art, the same art that was raised as a rebellion against the nationalism of the period. The white, black, grey and silver tones are inspired by the predominant palette of this Spanish artistic movement.
Each look in this Autumn/Winter 2023/24 collection has a symbolic name, evoking the various social-cultural and artistic movements of this pivotal period in Spanish history: resilience, hope and rebirth.
Juana Martín's creations are veritable living snapshots, transcending simple aesthetics to reveal emotional depth.
A giant dove unfurls from the latest look in this collection. This is the universal symbol of peace and freedom, in which Juana Martín signals her desire for profound tranquillity.
