Anti-Ageing Makeup Tips

In our 20’s and 30’s ageing is the last thing on our mind but once you hit the BIG 40 those ageing concerns starts to creep in. So instead of trying to hide your age by covering up, here are some simple tips on how to master the techniques, textures and colours to keep you looking radiant and youthful.

Take It Easy

An overly made-up skin will make you look so much older, so take it easy with the make- up and if you have dark circles or some sun spots dot a tiny bit of concealer on the inner corners of your eyes or on those spots and not all over your face. The more skin you show the better, especially if it is well-hydrated skin. This will give you more youthful looking complexion than a heavily covered complexion.

Switch To A Lightweight Base

As we age our skin is prone to discolouration and dullness, so look for a foundation that illuminates as well as gives good coverage. Avoid heavy consistency foundations that will cake in your fine lines this will age you further. Tinted moisturizers with luminescent particles or lightweight liquid foundations are best for lined skin because unlike pressed powder, which settles into the wrinkles and makes the skin look even older that what it is, a light-reflective liquid formula creates the illusion of a glowing complexion. Also blending a lightweight foundation or CC Cream evenly into your face and neck with lightweight concealer to shadow problem prone areas, like around your nostrils and under your eyes.

To apply foundation flawlessly, you can use either a damp sponge or a foundation brush to dot it all over your face in tiny amounts, use loose translucent powder, on your face avoiding the eye area, to set it.

Open Your Eyes

Eyelids tend to sag with age, but with clever contouring you can disguise a lack of definition. Curling your eyelashes will lift sagging eyes, and a volumising mascara will thicken your lashes that have grown sparse with age.

Curling your eyelashes and adding a glimmer shadow as a highlighter are the easiest way you can make your eyes look bigger. Work a soft, matte shadow into your socket line to add depth but avoid pale and glittery products that can settle into fine lines and dull your complexion. As far as mascara go for the blackest black mascara you can find as it will make the whites of your eyes look clearer and whiter.

Fuller Brows

Thick and full brows can take years off your face and because your brows lifts and defines your face you want to fill them in to make them look fuller. So if your eyebrows are thin, use an eyebrow kit to fill in any gaps and add structure with an eyebrow gel. Select an eyebrow pencil in a natural colour like blond or brown and draw feathered lines to fake fuller brows.

Plump Lips

Your natural lip line can begin to fade as you age and this will make your lipstick bleed so tracing your lip line with a clear lip liner can help lipstick stay in place. Avoid matte textured lipstick, which will shrink lips further. Instead, apply a dab of gloss to the centre of your lower lip to fake a well-hydrated, plump pout. Mid-tone coral and red lipsticks look good on most skin tones regardless of age, but steer clear of very pale pinks, dark aubergine and brown tones that flatten the mouth and pile on the years.

Youthful Blush

Blusher can knock off the years in an instant so add a creamy blush into the highest point of your cheekbones to create the illusion of structure. Luminous blush will bounce light off your face softening the appearance of fine lines and adding a rosy flush.
