Holiday Party Outfits with an Edgy Twist

Party season seems to go hand in hand with the holiday one, so it’s about time to start thinking about your choice of attire for all those forthcoming events you’ve been invited to. Your outfit should represent the jolly spirit, be elegant and classy - but also a bit edgy - so you should skip the expected ones and feel free to experiment with new, and a bit unusual combinations. This can be a great opportunity to spoil yourself a bit and greet the holidays in a brand-new outfit, or you can check out your wardrobe and find some forgotten jewels, or simply spice up some of your favorite pieces of garments.

When choosing your outfit, like with any other event, you should consider the venue and the type of party you’ll be attending. Otherwise, you can end up over or underdressed, which is the biggest mistake you can make. First ask around how formal is it going to be and then start planning your look. If you need an inspiration, we’ll give you a couple of ideas on how to create a glamorous, chic, edgy and stunning look for the holiday parties.

Her Majesty: LBD

It’s a classic, but with a good dress you can never go wrong. If you want to play safe, choose the little black dress, but spice it up a bit if you want to get the winning combination. Considering the type of venue, for a formal occasion you can liven up a LBD with high heeled shoes in some bright colour and matching jewelry.

If the party isn’t too formal, the choices are numerous: from sparkling or metallic shoes in silver or golden shades, to unusual models, modern, geometrical cuts and various lengths – you can glam up your LBD any way you like. A light, elegant blazer in some bold print over your dress will be a great combination for any occasion.

Gentle Materials

Instead of choosing the usual materials, like cotton, viscose or synthetics, opt for the more feminine and gentle fabrics, such as velvet, silk and lace. Velvet, as a soft, warm and smooth fabric is one of the best choices for holiday outfit. If you have some velvet dress or skirt left from the ‘90s, now is the perfect time to bring it out and let it shine again. But, if you want to achieve a retro instead of a passé look, you’ll have to make a smart match with your clothes. For example, a velvet skirt in some dark shade (like deep red or green) will go great with a sheer metallic top or a lingerie blouse.

For a trendy and chic touch, put a leather or bomber jacket over it, like the one from the new women’s Saint Laurent clothing collection. These are also a good example for a piece of clothing that you’ll find very useful even after the holidays are over, so you shouldn’t feel guilty if you have to buy it. One of these jackets can also be a good match when creating an edgy look based on silk or lace garments. For an astonishing outfit, choose a black leather skirt combined with a lace blouse or a silky dress in some bright festive shade, like red or green, and pair it with nice heels or ankle-strap pumps.

Suit Up

Suits and jumpsuits can be equally elegant and chic like dresses. Instead of a classic women suit, choose a velvet one, with a deep neckline and some sexy, laced lingerie underneath it (but be very careful what you’re choosing, otherwise you can end up looking cheap and tacky).

Monochromatic jumpsuits are also a good solution for a formal event, when they are combined with heels in some bold print, a matching belt and statement earrings. If you decide to go with a two toned jumpsuit, avoid prints on the other parts of your outfit. For the final edgy look, put on a dark lipstick, like deep blue or purple, and your lips will get the velvet touch too.

Sparkle And Dazzle

Holidays are the time of celebration so feel free to shine as much as you like. Add some glitter to your clothing, shoes, bags, jewelry and makeup. This way you’ll elevate any outfit and secure a fabulous, bold and “ready to party” look.

These stylish, chic and sparkling outfits are not reserved for parties only, so feel free to spread this festive feeling around during the whole season. Find a way to include the holiday spirit into your everyday look as it will lift up not just your mood, but also the atmosphere anywhere you go. After all, everyone loves a little bit of glamour and sensation in their lives from time to time, and there’s no more appropriate moment than the holiday season to treat yourself to it. So, seize the opportunity and enjoy it, while it lasts.

Beauty on the Catwalk S/S17 with Fashions Finest

Smokey eyes, dewy skin, and nude glossy lips were the trend during this seasons Fashions Finest S/S17 London Fashion Week event.

It's a sultry glam look that's dramatic enough for the catwalk and perfect for a night out. While the dark smokey eye may not be suitable for everyone, this makeup trend is much requested and here to stay.

There are many ways to achieve a smokey eye, and adaptable ways to wear it to enhance your features.

Here are some tips to find your best smokey eye:

Start by applying an eyeshadow primer first. This will allow even blending, prevent creasing, and keep your shadow staying in place.

2: Find the right shape to apply eyeshadow and accentuate your eyes.

It could be that crisp-angled-edges and using tape when applying eyeshadow looks great on you. Or an eyeshadow that's applied to look more "oval (less geometric)" and is blended out to the temple, works best for your face.

However, heavily packed on basic black shadow tends to make the eyes look smaller. The idea is to "open up" your face.

3: Pairing gold or silver eyeshadow (if you're a warm or cool tone) with your black smokey eye is a great way to make your eye color "pop" and add glamour to your look.

Add a bit of shimmer to the inner corner of your eye to make your eyes appear larger and more spaced. You can also add glitter to the center of your lid for dimension.

4: Do use a pencil liner on your upper and lower lids and blend it out. You can also apply eyeshadow close to your lash line (on top of the liner) for added effect.
