Elizabeth Taylor Auction at Christie's
Elizabeth Taylor died on March 23, 2011.Best known for her contribution to both the British and American big screen Elizabeth Taylor made an impact on many lives. Known for acting roles in Father of the Bride , A Place in the Sun , Cat on a Hot Tin Roof , Suddenly, and Last Summer she took the world of cinema by storm . My most vivid memory of Liz Taylor was in her title role in Cleopatra in1963. Following her death, Liz Taylor had a number of collectible treasures she left behind. A four-day sale by Christie's at a New York auction has taken in more than $150 million dollars in profit in mid December of this year.

The star's belongings were auctioned in four parts, jewellery, haute couture, furniture and memorabilia. Hollywood stars, icons and even the most successful collectors and curators were on hand to play a part in the bidding and purchasing of the best of Liz Taylor's estate. One of the most sought after items of jewellery was the Prince of Wales brooch. This glamorous piece went for 841,280 pounds. The story behind this favourable piece is that Elizabeth Taylor had always admired it when it was worn by her friend the Duchess of Windsor. When the Duchess passed away Elizabeth purchased the treasure at an auction in honour of her late friend. The piece is a detailed brooch made of three diamond feathers that form the Royal symbol.

Elizabeth Taylor was known for her quirky sayings and sarcasm with a side of humour. She documented her intimate relationship with her designer pieces in her book" My Love Affair with Jewellery" She also wrote, "I never, never thought of my jewellery as trophies. I'm here to take care of them and to love them. When I die and they go off to auction I hope whoever buys them gives them a really good home."

Liz Taylor was also known for her exquisite fashion .Along with her diamonds on demand and amazing accessories, those that took part in the auctions had a choice of several couture gowns and pieces ranging from Lagerfeld to Dior. The wardrobe collection raised a record breaking £1.67 million at auction.

Elizabeth Taylor was one of a kind and she leaves behind a tremendous legacy that not only highlights her sense of style and fascination with material possessions but also her love for humanity and charitable work. Liz once said "You can't cry on a diamond's shoulder, and diamonds won't keep you warm at night, but they're sure fun when the sun shines".

RIP Dame Elizabeth Taylor
