Every year, Women4Africa chooses a charity to support whose aims and objectives are similar to our causes. This year, the charity of choice is AMREF UK of whom we are already huge supporters of their 'Stand Up For African Mothers' campaign.
Women4Africa are delighted with all the work that AMREF is doing all over Africa and are proud to be supporting them.
AMREF (the African Medical and Research Foundation) is Africa's leading health charity.

AMREF started life in 1957 as the Flying Doctors of East Africa and has over 55 years experience working with the most marginalised and vulnerable communities across sub-Saharan Africa to create lasting health change. Beginning with aeroplanes, to provide the most remote communities with health care, we have always used the 'tools of our time' to bridge the gap between heath systems and people.

Today we use e-learning, telemedicine, and mobile phones to spread health knowledge and care. Our work has won high-profile international awards such as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation's Award for Global Health and the Conrad Hilton Humanitarian Award.

Our current campaign 'Stand Up for African Mothers' aims to train 15,000 additional midwives by 2015, 1 in 39 African women die during pregnancy and childbirth. These women die needlessly of conditions that are easily treatable and avoidable. In the UK, the number of women who die is 1 in 4,600. Midwives provide a lifeline to remote and poor communities in Africa. Access to skilled care from a trained midwife during pregnancy, childbirth and delivery is the key to saving a mother's life and that of her child.

Women4Africa will be donating proceeds from its ticket sales and sales of the Women4Africa Official track to AMREF UK which will be presented to them on the night of the awards.
