Fashion designer, Oscar de la Renta died last week, on Monday 20th October at the age of 82.
A firm favourite at New York fashion week, de la Renta was renowned for his Fairytale creations and couture inspired dresses. Tributes have been pouring in for him, from the likes of Taylor Swift, Anna Wintour, Diane von Furstenberg and Karlie Kloss while he has featured in most daily newspapers this week - all of which have been touchingly respectful to such a great fashion designer.
Since being diagnosed with cancer in 2006, it has been obvious that de la Renta had been suffering from health issues. Yet he was present at every catwalk show with a smile and encouraging wave. His final collection presented last month, was a credit to his beautiful brand aesthetic with pretty pastel colours, floral prints, embellished details and jaw- dropping gowns in an array of shades. Former Nina Ricci creative director, Peter Copping will take the new position as head designer at the House of De La Renta, but no one will truly be able to replace such an iconic figure as de la Renta himself.
