As fashion took over the streets of the city, one thing was clear. A fashionable and on trend look is not complete without a pair glass of some kind.
Eyewear experts at Arlo Wolf shares some of the top trends seen in the world of eyewear at London Fashion Week A/W 2022.
1. Oversized Glasses
Oversized squared glasses are a classic and vintage silhouette that is making its revival. This was seen in the Ahluwalia show, as oversized square glasses were paired with bright 70s inspired looks. While the New York designer Khaite paired the oversized glasses with gothic looks, showcasing its versatility. These glasses shapes can help elevate any look and will give any outfit an effortless vintage vibe.
Matt, owner of Arlo Wolf, says: “Oversized glasses are definitely going to be a fashion focal point of 2022. With the revival of 70s fashion, oversized glasses are a wardrobe staple. So many fashion icons of the 70s rocked oversized glasses, like Marilyn Monroe and Brigitte Bardot, so it's not surprising that this iconic look is coming back into the limelight.”
2. Coloured Frames
Bright coloured frames have been all over London’s street style this week and were behind some memorable looks of the Coach runway show. Coloured frames can seem daunting for some, as they’ve been marketed as being a statement piece. This fashion week has shown that coloured frames don’t need to be the focal point of the look, and they are worn every day.
“Colourful frames aren’t as scary as people think! It all comes down to finding a colour that compliments your skin tone and finding something that compliments your wardrobe.” Matt says. “Once you’ve found the colour that’s for you. It will be hard to go back to plain frames again.”
3. Tinted Lenses
The y2k fashion revival is in full swing, so it makes sense that the popular eyewear trends are always making a revival. When we think of coloured lenses, many of us will think of Britney and Olsen twins. The street style all week has shown that tinted lenses are here to stay, for now. We were getting hints of this during NYFW with LaQuan Smith and Christian Siriano showing both yellow and blue-tinted glasses on the runway.
“Tinted glasses are rising in popularity, but instead of the rimless frames we saw in the early 2000s, tinted lenses have had a modern makeover this season.” Matt says. “Whether you prefer a cooler blue tone or a warm summer yellow tint, they both make a perfect choice this year.”
