This year, #SecondHandSeptember sees British fashion designer and activist Katharine Hamnett supporting Oxfam in its mission to challenge fast fashion.

Katharine Hamnett's slogan "NO MORE FASHION VICTIMS" will be part of Oxfam's Second Hand September with a limited-edition t-shirt collection.

About Katharine Hamnett For Oxfam's Second-Hand September Collection

Katharine Hamnett is supporting #SecondHandSeptember, Oxfam's campaign encouraging people to shop second-hand and reduce the impact of the fashion industry on the planet, by lending her famed "NO MORE FASHION VICTIMS" slogan to the campaign.

The striking message will appear on a limited edition run of donated second-hand t-shirts from Oxfam, which will be sold in its high street shops throughout September to promote the need to re-use, re-wear and extend the life of existing clothing to help tackle the climate crisis. The limited-edition collectable second-hand tees will be printed without harmful chemicals traditionally used in screen printing. Instead, water-based eco-inks will transfer the legendary logos on to the pre-loved clothes. These t-shirts will also take centre-stage at Oxfam’s Style for Change catwalk show, one of the opening events of London Fashion Week on the 12th of September.

Katharine Hamnett, who has campaigned for more than three decades to change the fashion industry, has been a long-time supporter of Oxfam’s climate justice work.

The iconic designer stated: “There are small things we can all do to have a more planet-friendly wardrobe and shopping second-hand and vintage is one of them. That’s why I am happy to lend my support to Oxfam’s campaign. They will be creating a selection of limited-edition printed tees, using unwanted tops donated to Oxfam."

“Also, if you go to the QR code on the T-shirt, it takes you to the Oxfam site where you can download a free jpeg of the artwork which you can take to your local printer and get printed on your own second-hand T-shirt – maybe one you have bought at Oxfam! I hope this helps to send a clear message that charity shop clothes are not only sustainable but they can be cool and stylish as well.”

Lorna Fallon, Oxfam’s retail trading director, said: “We are so grateful to have Katharine Hamnett on board with Oxfam’s Second Hand September campaign this year, with her iconic slogan tees." Lorna Fallon continued: “Katharine’s brilliant and impactful t-shirts not only spark much-needed conversation around sustainability in the fashion industry, they encourage people to consider shopping second-hand which extends the lifespan of clothes already in existence."

“The money raised from Katharine’s t-shirts will help raise vital funds for Oxfam to tackle poverty and inequality around the world – including supporting some of the world’s most marginalised communities, most of whom are being hit by the climate crisis right now.”
