The new handbag collection by KOUA Mexico, paying homage to Acapulco and the artisan traditions of Mexico, has finally landed.
The Launch Of Acapulco – Waves of Change Handbag Collection
Mexican heritage, sustainability and social empowerment are building blocks of the new handbag collection by KOUA Mexico, named after the prominent tourist destination on the Pacific coast of Mexico. The collection comprises 10 exquisite styles, a colourful and vibrant celebration of Latin culture from the heart of London.
Following its presentation during London Fashion Week S/S25 last September, "Acapulco – Waves of Change" has officially launched for the wider public accompanied by fundraising for Acapulco in the devastating aftermath of Hurricane John with a donation portal now available via the brand's website.
Sustainability At The Heart Of Acapulco – Waves of Change
"Acapulco – Waves of Change" is more than a fashion statement: it represents a movement that embraces sustainable practices and leadership, including the use of vegan leather made from pineapple, recycled cotton and fabrics naturally dyed, recycled, or handcrafted by artisans from Oaxaca and Guerrero – where Erika’s family heritage has its roots.
The collection is part of Erika’s mission to bring together female fashion designers and entrepreneurs passionate about sustainability and preserving tradition to create garments that interweave beautiful storytelling with expert craftsmanship to be part of her hub, set to launch in the next couple of weeks.
Erika Alvarez commented, “I know I can’t turn back time, but I can help to bring about change with my initiative encouraging designers to create a unique collection with my textiles. In this way, I hope to not only contribute to the artisan economy and the cultural preservation of their designs and techniques but to also close the gender gap by empowering women fashion entrepreneurs and helping them to reach new markets, together."
The founder continued, “I’m so excited to release my new collection. Acapulco – Waves of Change. It not only portrays childhood memories I had in the most famous seaside spot in Mexico, it tells the story of how this place has been impacted by environmental and social issues in recent years".
The Roqueta, Maria Bonita and The Rewind from the Acapulco collection await to be discovered on KOUA Mexico's website.
