Psych was founded by Gaby, a Warwick Philosophy graduate. She started the brand in her second year of university, launching it at the university fashion show. Gaby has gone on to study MA Fashion Entrepreneurship and Innovation at London College of Fashion UAL, where she is currently based.
About The Pieces
These pieces are from Gaby’s ‘Blobs’ collection. Normally leaning towards streetwear and loungewear, she wanted to try something different for summer 2021 as we emerged out of lockdown. The collection is fun, featuring bright colours, unique cutouts and funky shapes. It is all about being lighthearted and enjoying the little things. The design features are still loungewear-leaning, featuring drawstring waistbands and cotton tank tops, but with an elevated twist. In future Gaby plans to further explore this elevated loungewear avenue.
Precious Seronga is a Tanzanian artist, currently based in London doing her MA in Fashion Entrepreneurship and Innovation at London college of Fashion.
“ As an African living in the western world, i noticed the lack of positive representation of Africa on the mainstream media, mainly advertisements of Charity and poverty. I chose to use to my creative skills to create art that conveys the underrated beauty of the continent and my home country. These pieces showcase my designs in collaboration with the amazing beadwork skills of craftswomen from Tanzania. The craftswomen normally specialise in creating vibrant beaded jewellery, but seeing the potential of the women skills to create more elaborate pieces, I designed the pieces to be styled as accessories, but as fashion outfits as well. The designs have the flexibility for the owner to style to their own taste as well as support this beautiful traditional skill.“
Aleksandra Dzakovic (designer of AKKA) is an architect who has recently entered the world of fashion by merging technologies with tradition. She gained her Master degree in architecture at the Bauhaus in Germany, focusing on the obsolescence of contemporary educational system, thus offering a progressive approach towards a more critical reflection and study.
While approaching fashion as a product design, she transmits architectural logic into a design process, mostly by adjusting the construction methods to the available technologies and by using biosynthetic, biodegradable materials.
