The traditional style inspired by Japanese culture combined with the warming comfort of modern Scandinavian design gives you ‘Japandi’. A well-balanced mix of design and taste focused on the common interest in minimalism of these two faraway cultures.

When the home designs from Japan and Scandinavian countries meet, you have 'Japandi'. Coming from the very antipodes, this interior design is made of balance, harmony and a touch of welcoming warmth.

Based on simplicity and functionality, Japandi has both core elements of Japanese ‘Wabi-Sabi’ meaning– a world view centred on the acceptance of transience and imperfection – and the Scandinavian practice of ‘Hygge’ which is defined as a certain quality of cosiness.

Keep in mind the following elements; organic, clean lines, rattan, bamboo, light/dark woods and functional accessories. Get the idea? A good saying to stick to when creating this stylistic and comforting interior style is ‘Less is more’, keeping your space decluttered and airy is the way forward with Japandi.

Give your dining room a Japandi transformation starting with the basics. Have this colour palette with you – beige to a soft grey – then get ready to fill your baskets with the following: Heaven dining table and the Lund dining chair for all your fine dining needs. The Alma sideboard for storage and a few decorative elements such as Iguaze pendant light, Olbia vase, Marlborough stoneware vase and the Cango table lamp. Combine all these pieces together and your personal touch, then there you have it: your Japandi style dining room!

How To Create An Amazing Gallery Wall

Hanging a gallery of wall prints can be a balancing act. Just trying to find the right balance, spacing, proportions, color, and frames can be tricky. Because you want your prints not to just transform your space but you also want it to enhance the look and feel it gives to your space. So, before you start hanging here are a few tricks to help you along.

Never hang your prints too high on the wall. It is best to hang your prints at eye level. Because you want your guest to see and enjoy your beautiful gallery wall. Hang it to high and it will not catch their eye.

printswall resultunsplash.com

Always keep in mind proportion and balance. When hanging prints above your sofa or bed leave enough space between the sofa/bed and the framed prints. But do not leave to much space as well.

white couch wallprints resultunsplash.com

Your prints should not be wider than the sofa/bed because you do not want the prints to overwhelm the furniture instead of enhancing it.

wallprints balance resultunsplash.com

A good general rule for hanging your prints is that the bottom of your frame should hang 8 inches to 10 inches above the back of the sofa. But when hanging a grouping of frames you can play around with the measurements a little. Just make sure that you hang it low so that you can still have all your prints in eye view even when sitting down.

wall prints livingroom resultunsplash.com

Create balance by hanging your prints at least 2 to 3 cm the length of the sofa. If you want to create a bigger piece you can hang two prints together to create one bigger piece. When hanging a group of prints be sure to leave at least 2 inches to 5 inches between each frame to achieve even spacing. Be sure not to hang your frames too far apart as it will only look disjointed and as if you are trying to fill the wall, when what you want to achieve is a cohesive look, almost like each of the pieces are connected to one another.

How to bring feminine accent into your home

All interior styles can be enjoyed by both sexes, although there are certain interior design and decor elements that can be traditionally feminine or masculine. But sometimes you may want to divide the sexes by creating a space that is just for the fairer sex.

So if you are that fair maiden, trying to figure out how to bring more feminine accents into your home without making it look all too girly? Then read on to find out just how to achieve that.

Creating a space that is feminine and inviting is all about balance and a combination of straight lines, curves and decorative flourishes. So, no hard lines and geometric shapes but rather softer round edges that are subtle and stylish.

But how do you achieve this?

Let Us Start With Colour

A feminine space is often associated with soft, muted colors like light pastels and creamy neutrals. But not all ladies are soft and muted, some like it bright and bold. So if pink is your choice for an accent color and you like it bold. A bright fuchsia would be perfect. This rich pink shade will make your space feel bright and uplifting in any season. If bold pink is not your thing then a vivid purple also works well in feminine spaces.

femininepink
Now for a softer and muted look colors like mint-green, blue, light gray, rosy pink, barely beige and soft yellow are perfect for a soft creamy and delicate feminine look and feel. You can break up all this lightness with a small burst of coral, fuschia, hot pink or even lipstick red.

feminineaccents
Then Add Your Patterns And Textures

Florals, botanicals and woven fabrics work well in feminine spaces as they bring a softness to the space. Small prints like polka dots also work well in feminine spaces.

When it comes to textures try and use a mix of textures because how you use them will determine the look and feel of the space. So, for instance you can combine hard with soft, shiny with matte, and smooth with coarse to create a more flawless look.

The combination of textures that you use will add depth to your space so do not be afraid to use different materials like cotton, silk, velvet, linen, chenille, and cashmere. And yes to ruffles as it is the ultimate feminine texture.

Followed By Your Furniture And Decor Accessories

Decor accessories play a huge role in feminine interiors. When it comes to creating a feminine aesthetic, a lot can be done with crystal, gilt, mirror, and marble as it just adds a touch of feminine glamour. Try to incorporate warm metallics such as rose gold or copper to create a glamorous and warm space.

Furniture in a feminine space should include decorative feminine flourishes, like button tufting and carved details. You do not necessarily have to have this on every piece in your space as it might be too overwhelming

Do not overcrowd the space with furniture simply because they look great each piece needs to have a purpose.

textureandfurniture
Feminine rooms tend to include more decorative pieces, not just for practical purposes but also for aesthetic reasons. A vase of fresh flowers on a dressing table or night stand, decorative throw pillows and wall art makes for great decorative accessories in a feminime space.
