Bring It All Together With Throw Pillows

There is nothing more inviting then sinking into a sofa full of plush throw pillows. And because your sofa can make just as much as a statement in your living room as an accent wall it is important that you pick the perfect throw pillows to complete your rooms look and feel. Read on to find out what our picks are for throw pillows that will not only add colour but make a statement on your sofa.

Statement

Jazz up a plain sofa with statement pillows. Statement throw pillows will elevate your living room and will add extra comfort and style to your sofa. This can be throw pillows in bold colours or patterns depending on the look of your living room. So if colour is your first love then opt for bold colours and if your style is more pattern-driven then that is your starting point.

Try these throw pillow trends;

Abstract Energy, a fun and free-spirited interior style. The bold geometrics, hand-drawn playful blocks of colour is all about expressing personality. The bold patterns and striking colours will add a playful look and feel to your living room and will revitalise a plain sofa.

Patterned Pillows

Patterned throw pillows are like a, OH THAT IS NICE compliment you get it is a quieter compliment to the WOW THOSE SHOES ARE STUNNING. They make a statement but just not so loud.

Try these throw pillow trends;

Soft Tropics

A subtle joyous celebration of nature. The botanical prints are both understated and bold. In colours that reminds us of sunny days and flowery garden.

Solid Pillows

Okay, so you are not that into patterns and texture and want something more simple but still unique to your living rooms personality Then solid coloured throw pillows will be your best option. Go for throw pillows that will enhance your colour scheme and that complement your interior style.

Try these throw pillow trends;

Modern Fusion

It is simple, but with a stylish aesthetic in solid colours like mustard, leaf green, nude pink, and blue or for a more earthy feel invest in colours like terracotta and spiced red and for a more refined glamour look try dusky rose and pewter.

Clean Lines

Clean lines, uncluttered, monochromatic and understated simplicity is how I would describe minimalism. A look, when achieved correctly, is simply beautiful. Achieving this look should be done with purpose because it is not an easy look to achieve. It is more than just choosing a few pieces of furniture and placing it in front of a white backdrop, which can leave a space feeling cold, sparse and unlived-in.

What is Minimalism?

Is it just about keeping a space simple, uncluttered and monochromatic? Minimalism for me is about Form, Focus and Functionality.

To break it down; form is very important. Let's take for instance your dining room for the room to function well you need a  table and chairs. But to create a well designed minimal look these pieces need to speak to one another. Each piece needs to relate to the next piece through its design, line, and color. In other words, they must work well together in their basic shape.

In minimalist design, the focus should be on something other than space so this can be the furniture or even the art or decor pieces.

The pieces in the room should all be functional and add value to space. So, if you live outside of your home is very busy you want a space to come home to that is restful. Therefore every piece of furniture and decor’s function is going to be calming with simple compositions and nothing that is going to be too stimulating to the eye.

How can you achieve this in your own home?

A limited palette, this does not necessarily have to be the classic black, white, and gray palette. The main thing is to keep the palette simple and to avoid brights or any complex color combinations. Neutrals work best paired with moody darks, whites, or mid-tone shades.

The furniture that works best needs to have sleek and clean lines without any ornate details. The elegant straight lines combined with the open and spacious feel your space will feel calm and relaxed.

Remember that everything needs to be functional and picked with purpose. And when picking your decor pieces the key is to control the elements you add to your space. Choose soft furnishings, decor accessories and wall prints that have a limited color palette and patterns.  Avoid large floral prints, small busy prints, extravagant, and complicated designs that call too much attention to themselves.

The minimalist space works well with solid blocks of neutral colors to achieve a tranquil and relaxing feeling. When choosing wall prints or artwork hang. Pick them with purpose, so, select pieces that evoke a sense of tranquility. And fits in with the form and focus of the space.

Give these pieces a try for a clean uncluttered, simplistic minimalist look.

A Wall Of A Statement

Home is where we will be for the next while and if that is where we are going to be we might as well make the most of it. And with it being spring which is usually the season to spruce up our homes. There is no better time than now to inject happy and positive color and playful patterns into our homes. And not forgetting that we are on a bit of a tight budget we have a quick, affordable and easy way for you to brighten your living room and bedroom.

Create An Accent Wall

We all know what it feels like when you feel boxed in and all you can see around you is four white walls. Aagh!! That alone will drive you bananas. So, the solution, create an accent wall. You can, of course, paint your accent wall but there are more fun and creative ways to make a statement. And here are two of my favorites that will create interest and add texture in your living room or bedroom.

Dress it with a piece of your favorite fabric. This works the same as hanging wallpaper and using fabric with a large floral pattern will add color and added texture to your room.

You will need:

● Textile fabric
● Scissors
● Drop cloths
● Stepladder
● Laundry starch
● Paint roller with low-nap roller cover
● Paint tray
● Wallpaper smoothing tool
● Metal straightedge
● Sharp utility knife

Instructions:

Prepare the Fabric and the Walls. Opt for fabric with a large pattern like floral's and make sure that you have enough fabric to cover your chosen wall. Make sure the fabric is clean and dry. If you want to be sustainable have a look through your old flatbed sheets.

Cut the lengths of fabric to fit the wall, allowing about 2 inches of extra fabric at the top and the bottom, and along wall edges. Wash the wall down and dry it before you begin, and remove everything from the wall.

Apply Starch - You can use starch to attach the fabric to the wall. This will not damage the wall or the fabric and will allow for easy removal Cover your wall to avoid too much mess.

Apply the starch to the wall using a paint roller as this is less messy and faster than using a brush or dipping the fabric into a container of starch. Make sure to cover all of the wall surfaces completely.

Hang the Fabric - This will take patience, but it is not difficult. Apply the fabric while the starch is still damp, beginning in one corner and moving across the wall. Get the kids to help to make sure that everything goes on straight. Have a helper stand back from the wall to ensure the pattern remains properly aligned and that they match at the edges. Use a wallpaper smoothing tool to flatten the fabric against the wall.

Now, roll more starch over the fabric and let it dry

Trim the Fabric - Trim off the excess when the starch and fabric are dry to the touch, use a straightedge and sharp utility knife. Just be careful with the sharp blade

After Care:

You can keep it looking fresh clean by simply cleaning it with a sponge and some dish-washing detergent. When it comes time to remove the fabric, use a wet sponge and soak the corners until they come away from the walls. The fabric should peel right off.

Create A Washi Tape Pattern

This is a brilliant idea for small spaces with boring white walls. Follow the step by step instruction Emily’s Blog Everything Emily Blog, on how to use black washi tape to create a repeat pattern.

An oldie but always a goodie is a Gallery wall. Gather all the old frames that you have laying around the house and fill it with new wall art.

Tips For Working From Home

As a direct result of the Covid 19 lockdown currently in place in the UK and indeed worldwide, many people have found themselves unable or unwilling to travel into their place of work, and are now spending time in their home, and working using laptops, phones and computers, from their living room, kitchen table or the spare bedroom.

Many businesses which have in the past worked out of large buildings, have realised that this way of working – where employees work from home, could be a way to reduce overheads and allow for more efficient business management in the future, once this lock down is all over!

With this in mind, Fashions Finest have some top tips, to help you get the most out of your time working from your home space, and help you to survive your isolation period while still working from home.

Get Up And Get Dressed:

Getting up and dressed every morning will help to put you in a good frame of mind for working! You may decide you wear the same formal wear you would wear to work, or just comfortable sportswear, whatever works best for you is fine. The point is that the start of your working day is marked by getting out of bed, getting dressed and mentally preparing for a day at work!
This also means going to bed early enough to ensure you are getting a good amount of sleep and setting your alarm clock for your usual waking time too.

Set Regular Working Hours:

Working to regular hours, helps you to get into good habits for your daily routine, and it times like this, setting good routines are a great way of ensuring your day doesn’t drag on endlessly, and follows a pattern, which is great for your state of mind too. That way you know what time you start work, when you take breaks and for how long, as well as what time you clock off for the day. This is especially useful when you have a family. They know what time you will be available to spend time with them, and when you are effectively ‘at work’.

Sit At A Desk Or Table:

Having a desk or table to sit at ensures you maintain a good posture while working and you can organise your work space for the hours you are at work. This might be a desk in the spare bedroom, or even the kitchen table. Either works well to ensure you don’t slouch too much, and injure your back or hips in the long term, and it also helps to set you in the ‘work’ frame of mind, and ensure you are potentially more productive than snuggling up on the sofa with the TV and the lap top on your knees.

Take Regular Breaks:

Regular breaks help you to remember to eat, and stay hydrated too. Plenty of snacks and hot and cold drinks throughout your work day will keep your mind alert and firing! Break times can also include time to play with your children, teach a ‘maths lesson’ or do some arts and crafts sessions, or take a walk, have a little home workout session, or have a conversation with whomever you share your household. Its about doing whatever works for you and your own personal circumstances.

Spruce Up Your Work space:

UK company, Cambridge Imprint make patterned paper, stationery and home-ware with a sophisticated palette, and their beautiful, yet practical storage and filing systems are the perfect way for you to create a stylish and homely and functional workspace in your home, while still ensuring the area as not out of keeping with your own home décor. Also, you never know, home working could become a bigger part of your new post Covid 19 daily routine, and with all these delights on offer, you will be able to hit the ground running!

Keep Moving:

It will improve your mental state if you plan in times of movement within your day. That might be a YouTube/home work out every morning, then a late afternoon walk around your area, or a park if you are lucky enough to live close to one. Alternatively you could try something different like yoga or a work out using the things you have all around your home already. If you want to spend some money, you could even find an online personal trainer to help you stay fit and healthy in these most strange of times too.

Most importantly of all, stay safe while you stay productive, and don't forget to keep washing those hands too!

Fashionable home accessories1 result
Our home is the place where we feel most comfortable and relaxed. Additionally, it speaks volumes about our personality and interests, and even small details like home accessories can reveal to our guests who we truly are. Therefore, it’s extremely important that we invest in our house and thus present ourselves in the best light. And, in order to help you find some fashionable home accessories that will match your innovative mind, but also stand the test of time, we’ve prepared a list of our favourite ones. Let’s take a look.Mirrors

Although the primary purpose of mirrors has nothing to do with home decoration at first sight, when you consider all the effects mirrors can have on the interior, you’re most likely to change your mind. Not only will your rooms look more spacious thanks to them, but they will add a touch of elegance to the decoration as well. Additionally, you can go for some interesting fashionable mirror frames which will show what a true fashionista you are and that you’re always up to date with all the latest trends.
Photo Frames

Photo frames are definitely a great choice if you want to turn your home into a nice and warm place. Thanks to them you’ll have a chance to display your unforgettable memories and have all the dearest people always in sight. Additionally, you can find so many different frame designs and chose those which will go well with the colour pattern of your interior. Furthermore, handmade photo frames have been a true craze over the last few seasons, and their uniqueness will add that final touch to your home. Finally, vintage photo frames are a great way to create a contrast and make a perfect balance between modern and rustic decor.

Potted Flowers

Fashionable home accessories3 result

Going green is absolutely a must this year, and aside from being considered extremely important for our environment, it has become a kind of fashion statement as well. Therefore, don’t even think about skipping potted flowers when decorating your home. They will purify the air making it much healthier, but also serve as great decor. For example, fashionable Wedgwood pots are uniquely designed and thus will catch the eye of all your guests. Finally, make sure to choose low-maintenance plants, since you don’t want to end up with all your flowers dead after a short vacation or a business trip.

Rugs

Another evergreen house accessory is a rug. Not only do they make your house more comfortable and allow you to walk barefoot without freezing your feet off, but it can serve as a great piece of decoration as well. We advise you to go for a vintage Moroccan rug which is characterised by a minimalistic design and interesting patterns that will be easily combined with the rest of your decor, making your house look polished and elegant. Finally, these rugs are incredibly soft, so you’ll have a chance to enjoy lying on them while reading your favourite book.
Wallpapers

Fashionable home accessories4 result

Finally, wallpapers are an accessory that has been popular for years and it will certainly stand the test of time. The great thing about them is that there is an abundance of choices that you can go for. You can literally find whichever colour and pattern you like and opt for those that most precisely depict your feelings and personality. Furthermore, instead of covering all the walls, you can always choose an accent one and get bold coloured wallpapers for it. You’ll be surprised to see how such a detail can do wonders and make an entire room look much more interesting and fashionable.

As you can see, decorating your home in such a way that it maintains a modern look for a long time is not that hard after all. You just need to opt for some evergreen accessories and work out the best way to incorporate them into the rest of your house design. Finally, don’t shy away from experimenting and also adding your personal touch since your home should represent who you are, instead of copying the personality of a famous designer.
