Pantone has announced which shade will colour and shape our 2023: Viva Magenta. Described as a colour that is rich, regal and full of life, it is an “animated red that encourages experimentation and self-expression without restraint, an electrifying, and a boundaryless shade that is manifesting as a stand-out statement”.

Pantone has announced the shade we will see everywhere in 2023: Viva Magenta. Alive, bold and beyond limits, the Colour of the Year has no limits of style.

Presenting Viva Magenta, Pantone's Colour Of The Year 2023

We have seen the vibrancy of Valentino Gavanani's Pink PP, a taste of what we are going to see in the coming year. Viva Magenta will charge our 2023 with its non-conventional appeal and mixture of warm and cold tones.

Pantone Colour Institute™'s Executive Director, Leatrice Eiseman, said: “In this age of technology, we look to draw inspiration from nature and what is real. PANTONE® 18-1750 Viva Magenta descends from the red family, and is inspired by the red of cochineal, one of the most precious dyes belonging to the natural dye family as well as one of the strongest and brightest the world has known”.

How To Style Your Viva Magenta

This shifting colour occasionally appears more red and other times more fuchsia - one thing is sure, Viva Magenta will not flatten your day or outfit! There is much curiosity on Pantone Colour of the Year 2023 and Google queries are already about magenta clothing with ‘magenta clothing’ at 170%, and ‘magenta coloured dresses’ and ‘magenta trousers’ at 140%. Fashion designers will likely draw inspiration from this and we expect runways will be full of magenta next year.

Make Viva Magenta yours. To help incorporate this new shade into your wardrobes, luxury cashmere brand N.Peal, have sought out five different ways to style it.

Tailored Trousers

If simplicity is your style, invest in a pair of relaxed-fit magenta trousers and team them with a fitted t-shirt. If you are going for an everyday appearance, this is a fantastic approach to incorporate the new colour as it is more subtle. Put on your favourite coat, long or short, and boom! You have the ideal combination of smart, cosy, and stylish attire.

Knitwear

Knitwear in magenta is a fantastic opportunity to try out this new trend. Style it over the top of an elegant dress or a pair of jeans to keep the ensemble more understated, or wear it with your favourite skirt or tailored pants to create a bold look.

Magenta Cashmere Jumpers

As it is the new colour for 2023, you want to ensure that the clothes you wear will see you through. These jumpers can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. For a nighttime outfit, add heels and your favourite pair of trousers. For a daytime look, choose a pair of light or dark jeans.

Dresses

Celebrities like Holly Willoughby and the Princess of Wales have already been spotted wearing stylish magenta outfits. These dresses demonstrate both how they can be tailored to be worn throughout the day and how they create the ideal transitional piece for your wardrobe. Whether you prefer jumper dresses, fitting dresses, micro dresses, or evening gowns, there is something for everyone!

Pair your magenta dress with some strappy heels or your favourite boots and you are sure to be on trend for your next party!

Magenta Accessories

If you are unsure about how to wear this new colour, let your accessories speak for you! You can subtly draw attention to this trend by using magenta in your accessories. Choose a pair of shoes or a bag in magenta to go with your ensembles, and you are good to go!\Is Viva Magenta your cup of tea? Join the conversation.
